Round and Anatomical Breast Implants

Which type of breast implant suits you?

Would you prefer the round, "full breast" look of the most popular shaped implants (aptly referred to as "round implants") or the natural slope of an Anatomical implant (also referred to as "teardop implants")?

The choice is yours!

Which type of breast implant is best suited for your needs?

A woman's breast comes in many shapes and sizes. Likewise, the particular breast-augmentation goals vary just as widely among women.

The appearance of your breasts will be highly affected by the type of breast implant you select, so it is very important that you consult with a surgeon that has extensive experience in breast augmentation surgery.

There are several factors that should be taken into consideration when selecting a breast implant material: your body type, the amount of breast tissue that you currently have, whether you want submuscular or subglandular implants, and finally: where will the incision be made: armpit, areola, navel, or under the breast?

Here is an interesting article about breast enhancement information.

Anatomical (AKA Teardrop or Contoured)

A teardrop implant is shaped very much like a teardrop. The design was meant to mimic the effect of naturally sloping breasts.

These are the ideal implant choice for women who want a more natural appearing breast implant.

The upper portion of anatomical implants do not deliver the same amount of gel as do round implants, at least in the upper portion of the breast. However, the overall volume of a teardop implant far exceeds the volume found in a comparable round implant.

There are two drawbacks to anatomical implants: cost and rotation.

The teardrop implants are considerably more expensive than round implants. The higher cost of contoured implants is the reason why round implants are the most popular implant type.

Rotation is always a concern with anatomical implants. If a contoured implant rotates, it will certainly affect the breast size and shape in a negative way. This is not the case for round implants, which can rotate in either direction without affecting the look of the breast.

If an anatomical implant rotates, the patient will most likely need surgery to correct the rotation.

Round Implants

The U.S. has two primary shapes of implants available for breast augmentation: anatomical and round. Round implants are by far the more popular between the two.

The round implant is a perfectly symmetrical, flattened sphere. It provides a more full look to the upper portion of the breast. If needed, you can select a round implant that projects the breast outward from the chest.

Round implants provide more fullness, lift, and definitely cleavage. These three elements are exactly what the majority of women are looking for in a breast implant. However, there are women who prefer a more natural look to their breasts, and those types of women will seek anatomical implants (teardrop - see above).

Round implants come with either a smooth or a textured surface. Because they are round, they do not pose a risk for implant rotation like anatomical implants do.

Another beneficial feature of round implant shapes is that they are generally less expensive than anatomical implants. Cost is the most likely factor that round implants are the most popular implants selected by women undergoing any form of breast augmentation surgery.
