Where To Find Royalty-Free Graphics On The Internet

People love pictures. Newspaper would probably only have a fraction of their current circulation where it not for the fact that they're filled with snapshots of people and events. The same can be said of magazines, and of course, websites, blogs, lenses, Hubpages and even PDF ebooks. Although it's possible to buy professional graphics on the Internet, the majority of webmasters, lensmasters and bloggers either don't have the money to pay for premium graphics, or they'd prefer to brighten up their virtual properties for free, if possible.

This lens serves as a one-stop resource of resources, a starting point for finding royalty-free graphics and stock photos to brighten up their personal and commercial spaces.

List of Royalty-Free Graphics Sites

BigFoto
Royalty free photo agency offering free download of all pictures (with link or reference). Most of the photos are from amateur photographers who enjoy seeing their images on Internet.
CreativeCommons
Creative Commons provides free tools that let authors, scientists, artists, and educators easily mark their creative work with the freedoms they want it to carry. You can use CC to change your copyright terms from "All Rights Reserved" to "Some Rights Reserved."
FreeImages
More than 2500 original stock photos, all for free. Contains dozens of galleries from technology to sports & games to food and cooking.
FreePhotos
FreePhotos.se is a web site sharing photos from personal collections. The site has more than a thousand free photos. You can also track new photos added to the site by subscribing to their RSS feed.
Free-Pictures-Photos
Free-pictures-photos.com provides large images which might be suitable for use in the printing sector. In order to keep quality loss to a minimum, the images are saved in Photoshop with the highest .jpg resolution. Please note: pictures are for free if the user can see the name of the site (a link if the photo is used on the web; reference when used in print). If you don't wish to show the Free-Pictures-Photos address you can make a donation.
Gimp-Savvy
This community-indexed photo archive has more than 27,000 free photos and images, consisting of over 2.5 GB of data. The goal is to make this archive a resource for collage and photo-montage using digital image editing techniques such as those described on the site.
ImageAfter
A large collection of free photos and textures. You can download and use any image or texture for use in your own work, either personal or commercial.
Karen's Whimsy
This collection includes hundreds of beautiful images gleaned from old books, magazines, and postcards. They are all from material printed prior to 1923 and are therefore considered to be in the public domain.
PD Photo
As I understand it, this site is one person's private donation of pictures to the public domain. Please take note, though, that a few pictures are not in the public domain. You're advised to read the license under each of the enlarged pictures.

Making Money Selling Digital Photography

Not everyone settles for free images; some people are willing to fork over some cash for either premium digital photography, or for a larger collection of graphics. And where people pay for something, you can make money if you can deliver what they for!

What do you need to know to make money with your digital snapshots? You'll have to be familiar with at least the basics of digital photography and then some more advanced stuff. You will also need to know what kind of subjects are more likely to attract buyers. Then you'll need to know where to get started and how - which websites will pay you for your images and how to submit your photos to them in order to get paid.

There are some resources available that teach you what you need to know, and will guide you through the process. Unfortunately these manuals are not free, but if you think in terms of training yourself for generating income, the investment should pay for itself.

Please remember...

Before you use any pictures, graphics, photo or clipart from any site, make sure you read their terms of service first. Some provide free images, but require some sort of reference. Others specify limited copyright. Avoid getting into trouble by checking the rules!

Do you know of other royalty-free sites? Any other feedback? Drop a line or two!
