HERE'S WHAT I THINK
RPG vs FPS
As a player of both RPG (role playing games) and FPS (first person shooters), I find that I like to play RPGs slightly more than FPS. That isn't to say I like them more, I've just been a fan of them longer. There are times when I just wanna play an FPS, like team fortress 2 for example. Other times I want to play World of Warcraft. Ultimately if I had to choose a favorite I would choose RPGs. So what about you?
P.S - Brownie points to games that are RPG/FPS hybrids!

No, not rocket propelled grenades!

RPG'a for sure! You have so many more elements and can use strategy more. They are like reading a real good book, you just escape into them.

Can't we all just play Mass Effect and get along?
I like RPGs, but when I can invest points into Shotguns and gain to ability to set off an explosion with said shotgun, I'm in heaven.
BTW, I thought FF: Crystal Chronicles sucked. Hardly any real character development that I had come to expect from the series.

I like the combos! I want RPGs with a real time combat system and FPSs with lots of story. If I have to pick? I'll go with the Mass Effect or WoW style RPG over FPS games such as UT or Counterstrike. I'm too old to keep up with twitchy 13 yr olds!

It's close but overall rpg's are just a little better for me than FPS. I'm going back in time, but the SNES had some very good rpg's that I loved.

So saying I love Deus Ex would get me bonus points? Sweet ^_^.
I loved Half-life and I got into Bioshock a bit (although didn't get to play it much, as it was on a friend's X-box). I must say, though, that I'd totally pick a new RPG over an FPS most days. There are days, however, when I just feel like pulling out TimeSplitters Future Perfect and playing a few matches or beating some of my records. Sadly, EA shut down online play a while back for TimeSplitters, and I have yet to find another FPS for PS2 that I like as much as that one (I own a PS2 and a Wii, so my online FPS options are limited).
I recently bought FFVI and FFIII DS from a friend of mine and popped them both into my DS without hesitation. Then I thought to myself, "which will I start with, III which I've never played in my life or VI which I've beaten or gotten to the end of ~4 times?" III remains untouched and I just beat VI today, lol.

I love stories and RPGs tell a story much more involved and endearing the FPSs.

I guess I choose RPG, since I like Animal Crossing best! What do Frogger and Mario Party games fit in, I'm not sure? I like those , too!

I'm really more of a Turn-Based Strategy/Role-Playing kind of guy. You may be able to click a mouse faster 'twitch monkey' but you will work for me some day because I have the ability to strategize. Entry level = FPS. CEO = RPG/TBS

A good RPG will knock your balls off and we have been drowning in FPSs lately so I need to go with the former. Screw you twitch monkies!

My vote goes to MMORPGs, but games like Halflife and Bioshock that blend incredible storytelling in with topnotch shooter action are a very very close second.

my mate got divorced cos a mmorpg took his life. I like being able to dip in and out of urban terror, kill some kids from belgium, and leave when it gets boring. FPS rah rah rah.

I love FPS and RPG, but I have found that RPG's tend to take up too much time, where I can usually blow off someone's head REAL quick!

FPS all the way. Turn-based RPGs are horrible. MMORPGs are great, but they take too much time. An RPG I like a lot is the Command & Conquer series. But still FPS rocks my world.

Too bad Sapsten sucks at FPS. However, that being said, it is always more fun to castrate Sapstens character in an FPS. No RPG can ever beat that.

ugh. hard decision, rpgs for delicious story and long hour fun, fps for short attention span and taking out all the day's rage with guns.....

- I agree with Arizona Snow, if I'm by myself nothing beats the stories and concepts of an RPG, however if I have friends come by nothing beat a good 4-6 player FPS death match. It just all depends on what the setting is.
