Rubix 360
And guess what? the inventor of the Rubik's Cube, Hungarian Professor Erno Rubik, is still alive and kicking and has come up with a brand new toy as a successor to his most popular invention - the Rubik's Cube. It is called the Rubix 360. This new puzzle toy is expected to be the latest bestselling toy, and that is why I am writing about it here on my lens. This lens will be a subset of my other lens, titled The Best Toys for 2009. I have also created a lens on how to solve the Rubik's 360. Professor Rubik has released other toys and games but none have become as famous as the Cube. We sure hope that this one will be a refreshing addition to the toy scene.

Rubix 360 - What Toy is this?!
To quote professor Erno Rubik (pic on right): "I feel that the 360 is one of the most innovative and exciting puzzles we've developed since the Cube - adopting elements of my original design, challenging the solver to use skill, dexterity and logic."To introduce the 360 to my fellow lens readers, the new Rubix 360 is called "360" because of its spherical shape (guess it is not a cube now!). The sphere features 6 balls trapped inside three transparent plastic spheres. One plays the cube by matching the colors of the spheres inside to the six compartments outside by shaking the balls through a middle sphere that has only two holes.
The puzzle promises to be even more frustrating, challenging and interesting than the original Rubik's Cube, if you ask me. There is only a single solution! You won't have to remember all the algorithms to solve this one as in like the previous original cube, but still I have a feeling this toy will lead to endless fun or frustration.

Rubix 360 - My Thoughts
If you ask me, unveiling the 360 at this time seems to be a double edged sword. On the one hand, people may be more inclined to buy this toy during the recession, because it is a simple game that is cheap, suitable for all ages and abilities and requires no electricity or batteries and yet will guarantee hours and hours and hours of fun. Until somebody comes up with the solution that is. Even then, there may be a certain hype generated and the 360 can become a fad like the original cube, and even invite speed cubing competitions.Yet on the other hand, people may just not buy anything at all during this recession. Guess only time will tell!

Rubik's Touch Cube
Now guess what? Before this rubix 360 gets hot on planet earth, some new rubik's cube comes out. The Rubik's Touch Cube works just like the original Rubik's Cube, only that the cube doesn't turn or rotate or swivel! Theres some sort of weird algorithm that allows you to control the "turning" of the cube just by sensing your fingers! Theres also this motion detector known as an accelerometer. Now thats amazing! Its like virtual cubing or like touchscreen style cubing. It also seems that the Touch Cube can solve itself as the player watches, or even teaches somebody how to solve the cube like some virtual teacher performing the solution step by step, Last but not least there is memory built-in that will allow the player to save his cube's state like a save game if he decides to take a break. Cool! Well this cube even has some sort of light show when its charging in its dock!
I have a feeling this toy is not endorsed by the Rubik gang, i.e. the Professor didn't design this toy. Its from Techno Source and I think Hasbro Toys. But who knows maybe it can be a bestseller too.
The TouchCube will launch in autumn 2009 for under $149.99. Thats pretty expensive if you ask me and we are still in a recession! If I find more info on this toy, I will make sure you get to hear the news here first on my lens! Stay tuned...

Rubik's Touch Cube vs Touch Rubik's Cube
Now guys this is the best part of my lens ever. I did a search on the supposedly new rubix's touch cube and guess what I found? A touch rubik's cube? Well according to the maker, this cube has 6 different basic materials on each of its 6 sides: metal, wood, textile, rubber, plastic and stone. It is said that "different materials give people different senses, which thus enabled the BLIND MEN to play". "And here we present the very example of this inspiration - The new Rubik Cube".
Well guys enough said! There is certainly something weird here going on. Did they really did this toy for blind men? Thats weird if you ask me! I also do not think this toy is endorsed by the official rubik's people or sanctioned by Professor Rubik himself. Im not discriminating against the blind or anything but I don't know, this toy just sounds weird, Maybe my readers can give me your comments! I am not endorsing this toy so Im not linking to this page. I do believe the blind have better things to do than play with such a rubix?
