Let that dog RUN

With Canine Obesity rising to new levels it's time to get the facts. Just like in human beings, obesity in dogs is dangerous and can lead to health related problems such as heart disease and diabetes. Not only that, in many dogs it can shorten the life expectancy limiting our time with our wonderful companions.

I am going to tell you about daily activities you can do with your dog and tell you about a proper doggie diet that can get your Canine Companion off to the right start.

Know that Breed

knowing the breed of dog you have...

Just like people, every dogs' fitness needs are different. Depending on what breed you have, your dog may be more apt to exercise than another. Sporting breeds (i.e. spaniels, setters, retrievers) tend to have plenty of energy and need daily exercise to stay in proper shape. Terriers also have a good amount of energy that may even require a sport as an extra outlet. Being the owner of 2 terriers, I know, they always want something to do. Herding dogs, such as the Border Collie, need to be stimulated with not only PHYSICAL exercise, but also mental exercise. It's important that they get this because if they don't they might use that creative energy else-where in your home.

Before getting a dog always make sure that they're condusive to your everyday lifestyle. Know your breeds.

MUTT MUNCHIES

dogs that naturally love to eat...

For some odd reason, there are plenty of breeds out there that need to be monitored around food. It is a breed characterisitc in beagles, basset hounds, dachshunds, and schnauzers (to name a few) to absolutely LOVE food. These dogs, and every dog, need to be put on a proper feeding schedule. A high quality kibble that is geered toward the needs of your dog, in the right portions, should be fed to your loving pooch twice a day.

These dogs should also recieve their required exercise. A long walk, camping/hiking trip, 15 minute bike ride, or even just some toss and fetch in the yard a few times a day could do the trick.
