The ruptured ovarian cyst is a type of ovarian cyst that is quite common among the menstruating women. It happens that some of the ovarian cysts occur without any symptoms and gets cured naturally. Many times they turn out into dangerous disorders which require high medical attention. The ovarian cysts occur in three forms namely the corpus luteal ovarian cysts, chocolate cysts and follicular ovarian cysts.

The Corpus Luteum Cysts

This type of cyst occurs quite rarely. This involves a synthesis of a hormone known as the corpus luteum and hence named this way. The corpus luteam cyst will build up after the liberation of eggs by the ovary. When these yellow particles expand over three centimeters, it is referred to as a cyst. The cyst will be large during the intercourse and during the late stages of the menstrual cycle. The cysts get ruptured on the right side more often. If the cysts exceed in size more, they need to be removed surgically. The chances of functional ovarian cysts occurring are high for the case of smokers. In fact the chances of it happening are two times higher than those who do not smoke. The treatment used to resolve the development of functional ovarian cysts is the oral contraceptive therapy.

Chocolate Cysts

The formation of chocolate cysts is also known as the endometriosis of the ovaries. The uterine cavity will bear the tiny implants of the cells. As a result of this, the smaller cysts line up on the outer part of the ovary. The endometriosis occurs with the increase in size of the cysts. The multiplication of these cysts in worst that it can even replace the entire ovarian tissue. Hormonal stimulation gets active during the menstrual cycle and as a result of it, there will be prolific increase in the cysts.

The chocolate cysts are named so as there is a thick formation of viscous substance in the endometriomas. Situations goes overboard when the chocolate cysts bursts of ruptures naturally. The viscous substance will spill over to the other parts such as the uterus, bowel, and the bladder. Also the other cavities and spaces get filled with this stray spilled over substance. Pain will be the biggest symptom of this ruptures due to adhesions caused in the body cavities where the spillover has occurred.

Follicular Cysts

These are very common which occur under normal circumstances of the menstrual cycle. These functional cysts are benign meaning that they are localized. There will be a development of a cyst each time when an egg is produced by the ovary. The size of the cyst will be small. This cyst will get ruptured when eggs get released from the ovarian tissues. In the case where the cyst does not break up, it will swell in size. They will get smaller in size after the ovulation. Very rarely it grows above a size of 8 centimeters. The rupture of these follicular cysts will cause intense pain in the pelvic region which will last for one or two days. Pain will be due to the bleeding inside the abdominal cavity which would be utterly nagging. When bleeding is excessive, surgery is a definite option. The pelvic exam is the option used with the intervention of ultrasound methods for curing this type of cysts. One can expect normal cure within a period of one month.

General Symptoms

There will not be any symptoms when the cysts are found less than three centimeters. When the size of the cysts expands higher than ten centimeters, it will result in pelvic pain as discussed in the above type of cysts. The pain may be unilateral or bilateral. With the case of endometriosis, there will be intense pain at different points and this will occur throughout the menstrual cycle. With the presence of peritoneal implants, the pain will be even higher in the pelvic region. The pain will also spread to neighboring regions and can be felt in thighs and at the back of it. Abdomen tissues will be slightly distended with the cause of ruptured ovarian cysts.

Ovarian Cyst Effect

They generally do not degrade the quality of the egg. They indeed interfere with the ovulation and follicular development process. These disturbances happen when endometriomas sticking to the walls of the pelvis interfere with the ovulatory processes resulting in the ovum rise. There are chances of ovarian cysts getting twisted or going out of shape with the ruptured ovarian cysts. Other effects that can occur are the septic shocks, hemorrhage, ovary death and inflammation of mucous membranes.

Diagnosis

The ovarian cysts are no exceptions for the review of medical history of the disease. If ultrasound reveals the presence of large ovarian cyst, it would be a definite case of endometriomas. The physical exam of pelvis is also a diagnostic option which many not reveal presence of ovarian cysts until they are large. Samples of urine can also be examined to know whether there is any presence of blood or pus. This would reveal the condition of infected or inflammations and ruptured ovarian cysts can be confirmed. Pregnancy test is another option as a case of pregnancy in fallopian tubes known as the ectopic pregnancy is also possible with the ruptured ovarian cysts.

Blood Tests

The CA125 blood test is the one used for the diagnosis of endometriomas. The interpretation of the results of this blood test should be proper as the same test is used for diagnosis of ovarian cancer. When there is a higher CA125 with blood tests or when there is a bigger ovarian mass in the ultrasound method. The hysterectomy and oophorectomy are the suggested ones methods where the ovaries are removed for women of the age forty and above. The cancer will be ruled out with the methods of biopsy and tissue examination.

Treatment

Studying the root cause of the entire disorder is the first step. On the rear side of the endometriosis, the cysts are mainly an ovarian process. The ovarian cysts can be resolved with the removal of ovary. Also the hysterectomy is a good approach to cure this disorder. In the surgery method, care should be taken where the spillover should be avoided in the abdominal cavity. The argon beam laser needs to be used to remove the inner layer of cysts and ovary need to be reconstructed. At any cost, the preservation of organ must be the first priority.
