Death Touch, Black Art, and other equally as stimulating descriptions are commonly
used when discussing Dim Mak. In fact for many years Dim Mak was cloaked in a veil of
mystery and secrecy with few privileged to learn the art outside of China. Even within the
realm of Chinese Martial Arts artist the deeper techniques and methods of Dim Mak was
not shared with all. Historically Dim Mak dates back to before Christ with formal
practiced and documented written styles as early as the 500 AD.

More Discussion On Pressure Points And Power Generation

Iain Abernethy.com: power generation
For years I did hip twist, then I had a road to Damascus moment when I did a seminar about 2 years ago with Russell Stutely.

I realised that my hip twist was really just my arm or leg pulling hip round when I hit. Sure I could hit hard, but nowhere near my potential. Everything just moved as one rather than my body driving the strike in.

The basic premise for Russell's wavefom striking is that the body moves first and then the striking tool last. Think of sport related movements like throwing a javelin, throwing a baseball, hitting a ball in tennis.
Power Generation Tips - Standing and Ground Striking
Strengthen your shoulders and master the ability to draw power from the ground.
Remember that drawing power through the above methods are only a couple methods out of perhaps dozens, or even hundreds of other methods. Always do research on other generation methods. Using correct body mechanics instead of brute strength to generate power is always more efficient, as well as more powerful.

What is a Great Martial Artist?

By Russell Stutely

How would you say someone qualifies as a great Martial Artist? Is
it a great fighter? A great Movie Actor?

I suppose like most things, a definition of great is a bit
subjective anyway.

Here is how I look at it.

To me a great Martial Artist is someone who has a deep and thorough
understanding of his Art and how it can be applied in various
situations.

To qualify that further... I know some amazingly skilled Martial
Artists in their chosen field. They "appear" to have a deep and
thorough understanding of their Art.

However, when it comes to applying their Art in various situations,
they come up short.

They don't understand how to apply their Art.

This does not mean for one minute that they can't fight... that would
be missing my point entirely.

It is this extra level of understanding that to me, separates the
great from the excellent.

You may well have your own ideas of who is great and why. I would
never try and change your opinion on that. All I ask is that you
consider my interpretation of a great Martial Artist and see how it
compares to yours.

Why Are They Great?

By Russell Stutely

Pressure Point Knock OutsWhy do I consider some people great and others ONLY Excellent?

What a fantastic problem to have for the recipient of either
opinion!

Great MA's are also innovators, mavericks, they question the
established "norm".

They are not willing to accept "this is the way we do it, because
this is the way we have always done it"

They are prepared to experiment, prepared to fail, prepared to dare
to try.

They want to understand how and why a technique works.

They want to be able to apply principles to what they are doing.

More than that.. they want YOU to have that knowledge and
expertise.

They want their students to be better than they are.

They want to share this information, they think that YOU DESERVE to
know this information.

What is the OCFM?

Open Circle Fighting Method

OCFMDescribing the OCFM is a difficult task as it means so many things to so many people. In
some ways it is easier to say what it is not!
Martial Artists tend to have a background in a traditional art such as, Shotokan Karate, TKD
etc. These Arts and indeed many others are all considered to be a "style".
There are of course many styles of Karate, Shotokan, Shito-Ryu, Shukokai, Goju etc and then
branches and off shoots within each of those.
Still, they are all considered a "style" and practitioners of these arts are referred to as
"stylists" of those same arts.
Therefore these practitioners are easily distinguished from others due to those "stylistic"
differences and ways to accomplish the same goals, e.g a punch or a kick.
These slight differences in application and technique encourage much debate about which is
better, sometimes rather heated debate. Stylists from one area may argue over the correct
way to be in a certain stance etc.
All of this is of course a complete waste of time. To argue those semantics is a waste of your
training time.
To worry about the aesthetics of a technique, with no deep understanding of that same
technique, is worthless training.
These styles or rather stylists, fall into the trap of learning and performing in a "monkey see,
monkey do" manner. To them, the effectiveness takes 2nd place to how it looks. Plus, they
must all look the same, regardless of body type, build, body structure and ability level.
This is rather like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole!
The OCFM completely differs from this in so many ways.
We learn and teach from a principle based method as oppose to the monkey method. It
matters not, the aesthetics of the technique, just the effectiveness at that given moment in
time.
The key to gaining that effectiveness is by applying "known and proven" principles to each
and every technique.
This is why practitioners of numerous and diverse "styles" have been able to incorporate the
OCFM principles and thus free themselves of the shackles of their system, whilst still
remaining true to the original concepts and ideas of a system they may have dedicated
much of their life to.
