Before I moved to the United States I had no idea how popular Russian-American marriages were.
My American husband and I met when I was already living in the United States, so when we got married I though that were a pretty exotic and unique couple: a Russian woman and an American man.
After living here for five plus years, I realized that we were not all that unique. There are thousands of Russian-American couples out there. In fact, most of them go through similar stages of culture shock when trying to adjust to each other and many of them have similar arguments and misunderstandings.
We created a blog, called Russian wife . The blog is for American guys who are either considering dating Russian ladies, or are already married to one.
We give an unbiased advice on Russian women and Russian culture based on our experience and the experience of our Russian-American friends (which we have plenty as well:-)).

Three Things You Absolutely Need to Know About Russian Ladies

When there is no doubt that every woman is special and unique, there are some things which every Western man who is interested in Russian ladies, needs to know.

Firstly, it comes as a surprise to many that most Russian women are not feminists. They want their men to be stronger than them and take care of them. They want them to pay for their meal at a restaurant, help them put on a coat and open the door for them. Guys who fail to do these things are not "real" man in the eyes of Russian women.

Secondly, most Russian ladies want to get married. They don't value their independence nearly as much as American women. A Russian woman, who is not married is often considered to be "defective" in Russia. The same goes for a childless woman.

Russian ladies like their husbands to be the head of the household. Having children and having a good husband are probably the most important things for Russian women (well, for most of them I should say). If a Russian woman has a choice to make: a child or a career, she will usually choose a child.

Thirdly, Russian ladies DO NOT want to get out of Russia. Despite the popular belief, Russian women don't want to marry a foreigner to have a better life. Russian women just want to get married, but because there are much more Russian women than men in Russia, they are often looking for partner abroad.

Russian women who got married to American guys say that they would never move out of Russia if only they could find a husband there.
