Anyone who comes across AllofMp3.com or any of the other numerous Russian Mp3 download websites at first cannot believe they even exist. Whoa... But is this legal? CDs cost $2.50 each---there has to be a catch.

Their legality is a matter of constant debate. While all of the websites are based on the same laws, the most popular site AllofMp3.com has been the primary target of rightholders. Athough Allofmp3.com has recently been shutdown, its sister site, Mp3sparks, is still up. And there are many more. In total, I have at least 84 Russian Mp3 sites below.

Legal, quasi-legal, or illegal, these Russian sites offer Mp3s at low prices and the downloaders aren't likely to get into any legal trouble. So, if you dare...try them out.

Except for AllofMp3.com, they are sort of in order of price/quality.

I have a lot of blanks. It is hard to find the selections and payments services accepted of some sites. And I have only taken a glance at a lot of the free sites. Some might not be free, some might not work. Please help me out.

Even though some of the sites have small selections, a lot the sites are open to requests and if it is demanded, they will start selling something.

Reliability is based on my own experience and user comments. Please investigate the websites before you use them.

For the download sites without a client, I'd recommend you get a download manager to help you download songs. Some of the best are Orbit for PC or wxDownload Fast for OS X and Linux.

AllofMp3: Price: 3 cents per MB, making Albums around $2.50 and Songs around 15 Cents.

Although these Russian sites are pretty damn cheap, nothing is cheaper than free. Delit offers 2 free songs day, but they have a limited selection and two songs is not enough. Mp3 Hotfly offers free copies of hit songs, but that's like 5 songs. Grammy.ru offers free downloads, but their english translation is bad, and their selection is limited. If you upload two albums, 3Mp3 will give you 25 free songs, but that is a lot of work. Many of the sites above offer only free downloads, but have horrible interfaces and are in russian. So how can get free songs easily? You could use a file-sharing program such as Frostwire (An Open source program similar to and based on Limewire Pro) or Stable loader. You can check out all of your file-sharing options at Zeropaid.

Why would anyone use these Russians sites? Some of them, especially Allofmp3.com, offer a larger selection, a better interface, and higher quality, more reliable files than their file-sharing counterparts. For those who are tired of file-sharing, they provide a way to get mp3s at a cheaper price than iTunes. Moreover, even the most avid file sharers sometimes struggle to find rare mp3s. These sites can get you rare songs fast and cheap. The opportunity cost of spending a long time searching on file sharing networks might sometimes by greater than the cost of buying the mp3s on some of these sites.

Update 2: Allofmp3.com has launched memphismembers.com. This website allows invited members to deposit money and purchase music through an allofmp3 clone musicsparks.com. It's important to emphasize that this memphismembers is invite only. If you haven't received an invitation, then you're going to have purchase a gift certificate from a third party (see Ebay).

Update: Xrost has been down recently. I don't know what's going on.

Although not directly, you could still use a credit card on Allofmp3.com with XROST. They accept XROST iCards here. You can load money onto XROST cards using Visa, Mastercard, or cash. Then you can deposit cash using an XROST card.

Otherwise, you can use a JCB card through Alltunes.com

I went to Myzuka, which was very easy to use and free, of all things. Not the biggest selection, but very decent, and highly recommended. I've been using mp3sugar though, which isn't free, but very reliable and cheap with a very good selection and easy to navigate interface.

Avoid Mp3Sale like the plague! They have recently had a massive server crash, really bad customer support. Most recently downloads have been unavailable until 16th June - this has now been extended till 25th June - but they will still take you cash despite not being able to download

There's something wrong with mp3skyline.com at the moment - haven't been able to download for 2 weeks, tbh i am becoming a bit suspicious of this site as it is not recognising my password either suddenly, the forgot password link doesn't work and they have my money....

AllofMp3.com Sued by the Riaa

AllofMp3.com has recently been sued by the RIAA in New York for $1.65 Trillion USD. Here's their response:
"An attempt by the major record labels to use a U.S. court to as part of its campaign against AllofMP3.com is imprudent.

AllofMP3 understands that several US record label companies filed a lawsuit against Mediaservices in New York. This suit is unjustified as AllofMP3.com does not operate in New York. Certainly the labels are free to file any suit they wish, despite knowing full well that AllofMP3.com operates legally in Russia.

In the mean time, AllofMP3.com plans to continue to operate legally and comply with all Russian laws."
