Decorating Your Bathroom in a Rustic Motif
Love the great outdoors? I know I do. Some of my fondest childhood memories are from vacations spent in a cabin tucked into the woods of Northern Minnesota. Years later I still love the ambiance of a cozy cabin and wanted to bring a touch of the great outdoors into my suburban home. What better place to do that than in the guest bath?
Adding a touch of the great outdoors to your bathroom doesn't require a decorator or a great deal of money, just a little paint and a few well chosen accessories.
Color Sets the Tone
When I think of the great outdoors, it's the woods, flowers and trees that come to mind. The lakes sparkle in the sunshine and the sky is bluer than blue. Although it's the darker colors that come to mind when I think of my parent's lake cabin, they would not be a good choice for the walls. A light color on the walls will showcase your decorating style, not overwhelm it. Light shades of blue would work, but I prefer the green. An olive or mossy green would highlight the wood tones and add contrast to the darker greens and browns.

Curved Shower Rod
Curved Shower Rod
Create the illusion of a larger tub and eliminate that tight, enclosed feeling while showering. Easy-to-install curved shower rod reduces curtain cling and greatly reduces shower spray to help keep floors dry. Works with standard shower curtains and liners.

Hat Shaped Toilet Tissue Cover to Match Your Decor
Do your crochet? This toilet tissue cover is fun and easy to make. The best part is that it can be made to match your decor. The directions can be found at Crochet a Hat Shaped Toilet Tissue Cover

The Focal Point
Choosing a focal point is not always easy. In a small bathroom it may be a pinecone covered shower curtain and a picture of an outhouse on the wall. In a larger bathroom there are considerably more options. Keep picture proportional to the space available. A poster sized print would look out of place in a little bathroom just as a tiny picture would look silly hanging by itself on a large, unadorned wall.
Watch out for the Moose!
Let You Imagination Run Wild
What and how much you add to the room is a personal decision. Are you fond of fancy toilet seats? Do you prefer matching rugs and shower curtains? Add one or two items at a time until the room looks the way you want it too.
Caution!
If your bathroom is small, too many patterns and colors will overwhelm the room.

A Little Can Do a Lot
It's the little things that give a room the personal touch. Add a sweet grass basket filled with pinecones to your vanity. Get rid of the plastic bottle of hand soap and replace it with another. What about the toothbrush holder? Guest soaps? Hand towels?
Your options and choices are endless. Have fun with it, and when you're done, grab a glass of wine, settle into a tub full of bubbles, and dream of your next vacation...

How often do you bathe? Once a day? Twice? Do you hop in the shower or bathtub on a whim? I know I do. I take the water and the bath for granted, but in my grandmother's day bathing was a part of the Saturday evening ritual. You bathed and washed you...

- I love your suggestions for rustic bathroom decor. I like to add a moss garden to my bathroom each summer. It gives the feeling of being in the woods and would go great with the wooden toilet seat, the moose towels and the leafy shower curtain. Thank you for the suggestions.
