Rustic Decorating

Using rustic decorating in your home is a great way to get a warm and cozy look and what better room to start with than the living room.  Choosing your colors, furniture and accessories wisely are a key part of home decorating if you want to pull off the natural and cozy look of the rustic style in your living room.

You should use earthy and natural colors for your palette.  Get paint cards that match your color scheme.  Take the cards with you so you can get a perfect match on your accessories and furniture when you are out shopping.

In the living room, you can add a unique touch with photos, artwork and knick knacks in addition to your sofa and chairs.  You want to end up with a natural and rustic style by using  natural log furniture.  Picking your furniture and accessories with care will help hone your Rustic decorating design style.

Your decorating theme should focus on pieces from nature or pieces that have an outdoorsy feel like old fishing items, baskets and snowshoes.  Window treatments for this decorating style should be plain and natural - nothing frilly or formal.  You might think about using  wood blinds, plain sheers or a simple valance.

When decorating, you should also consider the lighting.  Living rooms usually have table lamps for lighting and you want to use ones that are earthy with natural themes or made from deer antlers to accentuate the rustic room design.

Hardwood floors are perfect for the rustic look, but you want to add some area rugs for comfort and softness as well as to reduce the "echo" effect.   The perfect style of flooring for the natural and cozy look is organic, woven or oriental rugs which you ought to purchase in earthy colors.

It's the final decorative touches that give your room it's appeal so consider enhancing your rustic living room with deer antler lamps and chandeliers along with woodsy outdoors prints in wood bark frames.  You can also decorate with taxidermy, snowshoes, and red and black plaid throws to tie together your decorating theme.  To soften up the room, consider buying pillows that are plain or have animal silhouettes and include some plants to help bring the outdoors in.

Rustic Bar Stools Make For Fun Rustic Decor

The rustic look of a western or lodge style home will be enhanced by rustic bar stools that have a western flair. Though bar stools are functional for seating, the can also be a great part of your decor.

Bar stools can serve a purpose and also be an entertaining piece of furniture. Depending on the store, you can buy these in several different designs, materials and colors. When shopping for bar stools, you want to be sure to pick ones that go with the colors in your room design as well as with the theme. If you choose stools such as wrought iron ones with camping-themed cutouts or wooden ones with natural fiber seats, you can create a rustic look.

There is a practical side to buying rustic bar stools to add to your decor. When purchasing stools, the height of the stools must be considered so that they will fit your table or counter correctly. Stools come in varying heights, so identify where it is going to be placed in order that you can then select the one with the most suitable height. You should select bar stools so that there is 10 to 13 inches of space between the bottom of the counter and the seat top.

To make sure you have adequate seating, consider the number of barstools you'll need for the area. The best spacing for bar stools is 25 to 30 inches from the middle of one seat to the next. Take a measurement: Length of counter divided by twenty-eight. The result should be the number of chairs needed.
