Introducing Rusty Quill
Legend has it Rusty was born with an eagle feather quill solidly clenched in his tiny fingers and an old bottle of rusty dark ink lodged firmly on his left foot. But then again legends have a way of getting out of hand which his mother will attest to as it was not an eagle feather but the feather of a red-breasted Grosbeak - less glamorous but no less bizarre.
Squidoo is the procrastinators love shack; and when I, Rusty though I may be, find myself needing to get some work done I'll head on over here instead and make a crazy new lens on whatever quirky little tid bits I dream up at night while listening to the bed bug circus beneath the sheets.
If you'd like to join me beneath the sheets check out my lenses about Tea Legends, Classic Car Auctions, Family Vacation Ideas, Rhyming, Minneapolis Music, Designer Fashion, Suntastic Sunglasses, Buying Meteorites, Cloning Extinct Animals, Exotic Kit Cars, and VW Buses for Sale if you please. WOW! What a mix "but you're missing the circus of fleas!"

Recent books I've enjoyed
The Plot to Save Socrates
Classics grad student Sierra Waters is understandably skeptical when her advisor hands her an unknown Socratic dialogue between the imprisoned teacher and Andros, a time traveler. Andros offers Socrates an escape from the hemlock--a clone will be left in his place, and Socrates will live in the future...
This was an interesting well-told story. Some books involving time travel lose the reader in complex dialogue about paradox and time travels' effect on the recreation of the future. While The Plot to Save Socrates did touch on what effect the events in the story would have on the future the author focused more on character and story development. If you are in the mood for an entertaining read that brings the enigmatic figure of Socrates to life (more so at least than Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure) I highly recommend checking this one out.

Grandmaster (Otto Penzler Presents)
Winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Paperback Original in 1985. Two men, born on the same day on opposite sides of the world, driven to oppose each other for only one man may be the Grandmaster. Grandmaster is an extraordinary tale of spymasters and assassins, murder and intrigue played out against a background of Far Eastern mysticism from Moscow to Washington, from Havana to Tibet.

The Best Thing That Can Happen to a Croissant
This was a very quirky but fun light hearted mystery....
I don't know that I've read anything quite like it before.
From Publisher's Weekly:
The book is a pleasure precisely because it so brazenly sloughs off responsibilities to pacing, plot or emotional resonance. Rarely has such a winning story been built out of such a paean to the joys of slackerdom.
Boy they sure do use high falutin' words over there eh? In case you are still scratching your head over what exactly a "paean" is I looked it up for both of us. It is a thing that expresses enthusiastic praise. I did enjoy the book though. Enthusiastically.

Chromosome 8
Mutations and generations of breeding have altered our DNA, but fragments of ancient code remain, every living cell is a junkyard of lost abilities and each strand of DNA holds mysteries of the past. Dr. Gastro Nister, in a desperate attempt at saving his young daughter from fatal illness discovers a way to turn on some of these "lost" strands of DNA. Apparently healed Katya has undergone a miraculous transformation but something unforseen stirs within her, something that will change humanity forever, or destroy it.
Moo-ha-ha (Deep evil laugh belches forth from the depths of my esophagus) Actually this was a really good book. Like-able characters and lots of action... check it out, you'll be glad you did, but don't blame me if you hate it I just said I liked it.
