Latest News - Kids for Kids 2009

Ruth Lorenzo will be singing at the Candlelit Christmas Concert at St Margaret's Church, Westminster (it's the one on the green in the shadow of Westminster Abbey) in London, in aid of the Kids for Kids Darfur Appeal, on 10th December.  Adult tickets £25, children half price, from Kids for Kids.

(I know I need to update the format of this Intro.  It's on the plans.  Just a little busy this week.  I have checked for new news though as there isn't anything new to report just now.)

Music Ruth Lorenzo Recommends

(Including Free MP3 Download)

Ruth has been busy on Twitter again. She keeps us up to date on her pole dancing classes (I went to a pole dancng class last nite and and ive got marks all over me, I got too close to the pole...cant move now.") and those little incidents that crop in all our lives: Ruth's involved a cockroach ("so the other nite, a little cockroach landed on my food and i ate it. it was crunchy but couldnt really taste it."). It really is worth following Ruth Lorenzo on Twitter - or following her tweets her on this page if you don't use Twitter,

Ruth (November 2009) has also been recommending some music. ("so EVERYONE needs to check this guy out....I LOVE HIS MUSIC. great writer Francis Rodino" [I've changed that last one to hyperlink it for you.] If you visit Francis's site using that link, you can download his album Circles and Squares free of charge. Ruth Lorenzo has also been sharing her recent album purchases. Check them out and vote your favourite to the top. They help show what sort of music Ruth herself enjoys and if these are her inspiration then I am really excited about her album.

Ruth Lorenzo at The Shadow Lounge, London

Live Performance on 24th September 2009

So many of the videos of Ruth singing live have been of dubious quality, but this is a real treat. Both the video and sound are superb and Ruth is getting better and better as an artist. It's in two parts as it's quite a long performance of several numbers. I won't spoil the surprise by listing them all but it includes a wonderful, rousing version of Highway to Hell. Many of the songs Ruth sings are classic rock tracks, orginally performed by some of the greats (AC/DC in this case). I think Ruth Lorenzo does them better. That's why I'm a fan!

Ruth Lorenzo Singing "Mediterraneo" in Spanish

We have had a few X Factor videos were Ruth sang a few lines in Spanish but here she is singing Mediterraneo completely in Spanish. It's also quite a Jazz style, but also unmistakably Spanish through and through. There's also "Sin Ti no soy nada".

Highway to Hell

Hamilton Racecourse - 11th July 2009

Ruth Lorenzo's voice seems to suit rock classics very well and he she is covering AC/DC's Highway to Hell at Hamilton Racecourse. I'm sorry that the quality is slightly iffy - there are fewer options for this than for Run (see below) which was also shot by Diana Vickers fans. This is the best I can find. (When I tidy up 2009 at the end of the year, I'll delete this. The video of Ruth's performance at the Shadow Lounge (see above) is so much better.)

Ruth Lorenzo was also in Barnstaple a few days earlier on 5th July where she sang Knocking on Heaven's Door. I have linked rather than feature the video as the quality isn't great and in all honesty I prefer the X Factor version anyqay.

Run - Duet with Diana Vickers

Hamilton Racecourse - 11th July 2009

Here is a video of Ruth Lorenzo dueting with Diana Vickers at Hamilton Racecourse in Glasgow on 11th July 2009. The girls sing a cover of Snow Patrol's Run as they are both working on albums of original material. (A few people caught this song but this video seems to be the best quality of those available.)

Ruth also performed Run solo at Play at Play Zone (quality pretty poor).

Wherever Whenever

Play Zone - (AWFUL QUALITY)

I wouldn't have included this as the sound quality is so poor but as it's Ruth Lorenzo as sexy senorita it's something of a collector's piece and deserves a mention.

Enough is Enough + Simply the Best

In the same performance at Play Zone she also sang Enough is Enough and Simply the Best The quality is slightly better but not enough so that it's worth featuring them. There are also tracks like Knocking on Heavens Door for which we already have great versions.

News

Ruth Lorenzo on GMTV

In August Ruth did a couple of TV interviews in August - both are in this video. She confirms that Purple Rain was the song for her which transformed her X Factor experience. The really, really great news is that she also confirms her album will be rock. So many of the ex X Factor crowd come out with bland pop albums and that wasn't what we wanted from Ruth Lorenzo. We wanted more like Purple Rain and we are going to get it, many (all?) written by Ruth herself.

Silent Night at KIDS FOR KIDS

It's easy to thing that Ruth Lorenzo just has a rock voice. He she is singing at the London KIDS FOR KIDS concert on 10th December in London. It shows she has a very well-trained voice. Ruth said:

“ "I was singing to raise funds for The Ruth Lorenzo Blanket Appeal for Kids for Kids. Kids living in huts in the desert have nothing to sleep under, and its cold in the desert at night. I am asking everyone to donate a blanket for a child. Please help me help children - sing with me and together we can make a difference!" „

Ruth Lorenzo on X-Factor 2008

(And Purple Rain - the video they don't want us to see)

I'll gradually prune this section of the lens to keep the overall size reasonable. But if you want to catch up on most of Ruth's X Factor performance's, you can keep up just with that on my special Ruth Lorenzo X Factor page. Her standout performance by a mile was Purple Rain but every version has been deleted from YouTube. It's a crying shame. The rumours are that it's because it's a Prince song - and certainly I'd say Ruth sang it better than Prince ever did.

It's elusive but at present there is a version of Purple Rain on line here. It's really is worth watching.

Always

This was Ruth's farewell performance on X Factor and for me it really wasn't as good as some of her other performances but under the circumstances that is perhaps understandable.

Links to Ruth Lorenzo Material

There aren't many good sites out there. Most haven't been maintained since the end of the X Factor series; others describe themselves as official but probably aren't.

The best link is for the Official Forum where you can meet other Ruth Lorenzo fans and discuss whar's going on.

The only only other one I currently recommend is ruthlorenzo.tv. It's kept well up to date. to date.

There are other Ruth Lorenzo videos on the web but by policy I don't link to bootlegged live performances, especially when the sound quality is poor and doesn't do Ruth's voice justice. If - hopefully when - Ruth records material for legal download, I'll add links so that people can buy her music.
