Rootz and Culture
Every society can be seen through the lens of its arts and entertainment culture.
The music, movies, literature, plays and personalities we celebrate truly speak volumes to what is going on in that greater society.
My intent is to present information from various entertainment genres in order to learn and teach cultural understanding and ultimately appreciate/celebrate diversity. By presenting those things that seemingly look like differences, we will find similarities and universality in our individual experiences.
I believe that "in order for change to occur, one must be an active agent in change!" To this end, I have created RootzandCulture Events and sit on the Boards of The Actor's Theatre of Charlotte & The Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas.
One final note as the Charlotte,NC Chapter Leader of Dining For Women:
Dining For Women is a giving circle created by Marsha Wallace of Greenville, South Carolina. DFW's goal is to make a difference in the lives of women and children around the world. DFW is changing the world one DINNER at a Time. I am currently seeking energetic and conscious people to support & join DFW Charlotte so that we can become part of this wonderful global initiative!
Hope you check these organizations out, and join me in the Rootz & Culture movement, wherever you ARE!

Rootz And Culture
- Weird Al
- His creative and funny parodies of popular culture has created a new genre of music resulting from his three decades in the industry. He grew up as the only child to Nick & Mary Yankovich and was constantly reminded by his Dad that "the key to success is doing for a living whatever makes you happy."
- When Hell Is A Place Called Home
- Ludacris & Mary J.Blige tackle the social issues of child abuse, sexual exploitation, teen pregnancy, single parenthood, drug use and others with such power and passion in this new video that it has sent chat rooms a buzz.
- My Nappy Roots
- Hair in the African-American Community has represented, power, independence, economic clout and in some cases social position. The constant battle to belong raged on as we sometimes describe each other's hair.."He got Good Hair or Did you see that nappy head of hair." And, so on this day before Black History month ends, I ask the question, what is this all about?
- Driving NASCAR
- With a move to Charlotte, NC, I was catapulted into the culture of racing after my first RACE WEEK. There I sat in bumper to bumper traffic on my way to shop at Concord Mills Mall next door to Lowe's Motor Speedway
- Video Vixen!
- The author provided vivid images of her experiences, ascending to "stardom" while earning the nickname "Superhead".....
- Rihanna & Jay Z?
- Gossip, Rumors,Innuendo have always been a part of our culture... However, when we add the celebrity element,it becomes even more juicy (so to speak). Within 48 hours of publishing, this article garned the most number of pageviews within the same period of any of my other articles. I struggled with the angle of my lens on this one..but, it certainly proved a point. Check it out, and pay particular attention to the comment section......
- Kendejah Liberian Restaurant
- Liberia is a country in West Africa that has enjoyed significant Democratic success. However, 20+ years of civil unrest has taken away its once glorious history. With a very symbolic election nearly 2 years ago, it is back in world news for having selected Africa's first Female Head of State, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
So, In honor of this historic nation, I've chosen to highlight and review Kendejah Restaurant & Lounge.....International Flava in the US Capital! - MADAROCKA:Africa's Queen Of Hip Hop
- MADAROCKA took the HIP HOP category at the 2006 Nigerian Entertainment Awards hosted by NAIJA Life Magazine and honors entertainers of Nigerian descent. Last year's award was hosted by BET featured Comedian/Nigerian born Michael Blackson.
MADAROCKA rhymes like it's nobody's business and says it with such conviction and poise that even she proclaims in her hit LOVE ME featuring Asha %u2026."MADAROCKA Too Much!"
So, here in my exclusive interview, I introduce you to her royal highness, "MADAROCKA: African Queen of HIP HOP." - Alexyss K. Tylor: Vagina Power!
- In light of the recent Don Imus controversy, Freedom of Speech has certainly been on the minds of many. So, after a ban from Cable TV in Atlanta, Alexyss K. Tylor (Vagina Power!) discusses her future and what's in store for her as an Author & Talk Show Host in this interview.
