Ever Wanted to Escape?

It's not as hard as you think.  Thousands of people leave their careers, homes and "normal" lives every year to explore the world, learn something new, or just take a well-deserved break.  And they do it without going broke or giving up everything they've accomplished.

Here are a few of the best resources out there for planning your getaway.

The Important Stuff

What you really need to know to escape!

The details aren't as important as you might think. Don't worry - someone will take care of your cat and water your plants! Here are the really critical things to remember.
  1. Anyone can take a sabbatical - income, career and bank balances aren't as important as they seem.
  2. Sabbaticals are an inside job - it's how you THINK that's important.
  3. You need to find a way to commit early. Set deadlines, buy plane tickets, or announce your sabbatical to friends, family and colleagues.
  4. Your sabbatical will only be as expensive as you decide it should be. Career breaks come in all shapes, sizes and costs; don't be fooled into thinking your hiatus has to cost a lot.
  5. Read a lot. Lots of people have done this before, and they've blazed a trail in their travel guides and stories.
