Beef Knuckle Bones Make Safe Dog Treats for Tough Chewers

It can be hard finding a safe treat that will keep your dog entertained for an extended period of time. This is especially true if your dogs chew through anything, like my two dogs. You have to be careful that it is safe by not posing a choking hazard, has no unwanted chemicals or can cause health issues.

My dogs and I have found that

Are Bones Safe for Dogs?

It is Important to Provide Safe Bones for Your Dog

Hercules Chewing His Best Dog Bone

There are some considerations you need to make when deciding to give your dog a bone to chew on. Bones are a natural chew for dogs, so many are very inclined to like them. However, not all bones are safe for your dog.

You do not want to use boiled or cooked bones as they can splinter easily and cause your dog harm. You also do not want to give your dog small bones that they can swallow as they will choke. Chicken bones and steak bones are also something you want to stay away from for safety reasons.

Some people swear by raw beef bones. These can be obtained from your local butcher. Raw beef bones provide plenty of nutrients that are good for your dogs health, including the protein from any remaining meat on the bone. However, they can be greasy from any fat or other tissue you may not want your dog ingesting, which can cause digestive distress such as diarrhea. They can also become rancid quickly if left out, especially in warmer weather. This means you would have to throw them away long before the bone is worn down.

Smoked Beef Knuckle Bones

The Best Bones for Dogs

The boys (my dogs Rusty and Hercules) and I have found that Smoked Knuckle Bones are the best bone for dogs. They do wonders to keep their teeth clean with the chewing action and keep them occupied for long periods of time.
  • Natural with no preservatives or chemicals
  • Tough and long lasting
  • Do not break into shards
  • Is grainy, so that they are able to chew any pieces safely
  • Large enough not to be a choking hazard
  • Smoked, so they do not go rancid easily (I have kept mine out in the heat over 100 and they did not go bad.)
  • Soft enough that they do not break or chip their teeth

Rusty's Favorite Smoked Beef Knuckle Bone

These knuckle bones are big dog bones which come from cows. The size is just perfect for large or medium sized dogs to chew on and stay occupied for a very long time as they are so long lasting. You will even end up saving money by not having to buy new toys or treats as often. My dogs just love them!
