Cynics decry the cell chip efficacy for changing the effects of radiation. I've heard a microwave detector scream warning and register 900 when held near a cell phone. Yet it showed zero when held against mine, with the cell chip on it.

So I'm keeping it. What can I say....

KOLKATA: Cellphone towers could soon have to steer clear of schools and hospitals in Kolkata as the state environment department perceives them as a potential health and safety hazard.

A list of guidelines issued by the department has decreed that installation of base station antennas on the premises of schools and hospitals "may be avoided because children and patients are more susceptible to electromagnetic fields". The order, issued under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, mentions that antennas be avoided in narrow lanes to reduce the risks caused by an earthquake or wind-related disaster.

The environment department has specified that the antennas should be at least 3 metre from the nearest building and should not directly face it, and that the lower end of the towers should be at least 3 metre above the ground or roof. Barbed-wire fences should keep antenna sites barred to the public, it has said. And access to towers, the government has suggested, be kept to the minimum, even for maintenance personnel.

Cellphone firms have asked to put up warning signs and ensure that these are "clearly visible and identifiable". A warning sign has been prescribed at the entrance of such zone. Such signs should carry cautionary notes discouraging people - even maintenance personnel - from staying too long in the zone. The environment department has suggested that the sign boards may contain the following text: Danger! RF radiation, Do not enter!
Operators and maintenance personnel, who are dealing with radio frequency devices installed on towers and at any other outdoor sites should be protected from electromagnetic radiation, the state says. It has advised cellphone firms to educate personnel on the possible hazards from these devices.

Cellphone service providers were guarded in their response to the new guidelines. CEO of Vodafone Essar East Limited, Sridhar Rao said, "We are still studying the circular. I will have to check with the network officials who are currently dealing with the do's and don'ts as mentioned in the notice."

But researchers felt it was still too early to reach a conclusion on the alleged harmful effects of cellphone towers. "These are still early days because cellphone towers were installed less than 10 years ago. You need to study an entire generation to come to a definite conclusion. But precautions are always welcome," said Abhijit Chakrabarti, scientist at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics.

Senior law officer of environment department, Biswajeet Mukherjee said: "There were complaints from several districts. Many schools said mobile towers were being erected on their roofs and in nearby areas.

The guidelines have been prepared carefully after talking to many NGOs which came up with the documents related to health hazards," Mukherjee said.

The cell phone industry offered him a position for $1 million a year to silence him, but he refused, and started a non-profit institute called The Safe Wireless Initiative to inform the world of this danger....by the end of this year it's expected that 4 billion cell phones will have been sold. This is a massive explosion in cell phone use, and one that is undoubtedly linked to health problems, including autism.

The information-carrying radio waves from cell phones may:
* Damage your cell membranes
* Decrease your intracellular communication by disrupting microtubular connections that allow biophotons to communicate between cells
* Increase deposits of heavy metals into your cells, which increases intracellular production of free radicals and can radically decrease cellular production of energy -- thus making you incredibly fatigued.

"Cell phone users are also 240 percent more prone to brain tumors, and a study back in 2004 found that your risk of acoustic neuroma (a tumor on your auditory nerve) was nearly four times greater on the side of your head where your phone was most frequently held.

What is even more concerning, though, is that there is VERY solid evidence that the number of brain tumors will increase to 500,000 per YEAR in 2010 -- and this will double to 1 million every year by 2015 if the causes are not addressed.

Folks, this is the real deal and represents an impending health care crisis.

Can Cell Phones Ever be Used Safely?

Ideally, I believe you should not use cell phones. In reality, though, I know that's not a practical option for many of you.

If you choose to use a cell phone you should use the speakerphone function whenever possible -- and keep the phone about two feet away from any body part. Do not keep the phone on your belt or in your pocket even when you're not using it, as the radiation WILL penetrate your body wherever the phone is attached. Instead, stow it away in a purse, backpack, or your car's glove compartment.

For times when a speakerphone isn't practical, you can use a NON-Blue Tooth headset, such as the Blue Tube headset. While Blue Tooth is certainly safer than no headset at all, it is still broadcasting its own information-carrying radio waves into your brain, just at a lower intensity than a cell phone. And there quite simply is no safe biological threshold for either of them.

We walk around in an ocean of radio waves. Our body's cells, already interrupted by brain hijackers like MSG, sugar substitutes, fluoride, formaldehyde, and whatever (or whoever's) DNA was in our last flu shot, are miraculously keeping us functional. That's how amazing our 50 or so trillion little geniuses we are composed of are. But in adding to this chemical soup with radio waves, in our hands, next to our brains, what ARE the odds on these cells breaking down or going maverick? Our health-care system is overwhelmed with immunological deficiency diseases.

Slowing down like chronic fatigue syndrome, or speeding up like cancer - getting confused one way or another. Every cell in our body is a little radio station. There is so much info out on this now. I search for current data constantly, to bring to the health offices I work in, and for other writing I do. A lot of the research done on the biologic changes in rats and humans exposed to cell phone radiation, ELF fields (what is clouding around you when you are near a plugged-in appliance of any kind) and radio waves from other wireless devices (such as cordless phones and computers etc.,) does not bring good news.

The human body is an electrical/magnetic device. We are batteries. We have magnets in our brains. We have electrical currents that are related to all our functions, but let's say something we would notice is muscle tension, a headache, a nervous or anxious feeling. Our electrical flows and magnetic fields can be disturbed by other electrical flows or magnetic fields. Including other people's, but that's another topic.

I wouldn't know where to begin in discussing the volume of findings in how cell phone radiation changes the way a mammal body behaves. Here's a short list:

a. brain heats up abnormally and stays that way for a while

b. the blood brain barrier lets proteins into our brain that aren't supposed to be there
(persons with Alzheimer's have proteins in their brain that aren't supposed to be there)

c. sperm count can decease by 30%, notice how many men clip their phone (used to be pager)
on their belts. Then there are the laptops too.

d. observable decrease in immune cell production from hip bones in belt-clippers

e. brain tumors appear

f. CHILDREN'S brains, eye tissue, eye fluids, absorb approximately 30 times the radiation from
cell phones as adults, and stay heated much longer. Children don't even have the blood / brain
barrier fully functioning

Suppressed immune function can mean allergy symptoms, MS, cancer, lack of energy, depression, anxiety, and all the attendant emotional disruption.

This article is a simplistic presentation of the subject. There is a lot of clinical research done, mostly on rats, since their blood/brain barrier functions much like ours. Hats off the the little guys who develop brain tumors, and other ghastly conditions so maybe we won't, and then get euthanized when the immediate research done.

It seems like the plot of a particularly far-fetched horror film. But some scientists suggest that our love of the mobile phone could cause massive food shortages, as the world's harvests fail.

They are putting forward the theory that radiation given off by mobile phones and other hi-tech gadgets is a possible answer to one of the more bizarre mysteries ever to happen in the natural world - the abrupt disappearance of the bees that pollinate crops. Late last week, some bee-keepers claimed that the phenomenon - which started in the US, then spread to continental Europe - was beginning to hit Britain as well.

The theory is that radiation from mobile phones interferes with bees' navigation systems, preventing the famously homeloving species from finding their way back to their hives. Improbable as it may seem, there is now evidence to back this up.

Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) occurs when a hive's inhabitants suddenly disappear, leaving only queens, eggs and a few immature workers, like so many apian Mary Celestes. The vanished bees are never found, but thought to die singly far from home. The parasites, wildlife and other bees that normally raid the honey and pollen left behind when a colony dies, refuse to go anywhere near the abandoned hives.

The alarm was first sounded last autumn, but has now hit half of all American states. The West Coast is thought to have lost 60 per cent of its commercial bee population, with 70 per cent missing on the East Coast.

CCD has since spread to Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. And last week John Chapple, one of London's biggest bee-keepers, announced that 23 of his 40 hives have been abruptly abandoned.....
.....Dr George Carlo, who headed a massive study by the US government and mobile phone industry of hazards from mobiles in the Nineties, said: "I am convinced the possibility is real."
