Free Email Advertising

I am dedicating this lens to all of you safelist users. I personally do almost all of my promotions with safelists and traffic exchanges. I like them so much that I just started my own safelist, JT's Ad Venture, and am thinking seriously about starting a traffic exchange as well.

You will run across a lot of people that say they don't work but it is because they are not using them properly. I still say they are the best way to get free email advertising and can be very effective when used properly. There is an art to milking profits from safelists and the techniques vary depending on the type of safelist you are using.

I will cover the basic types of safelists and how to use them in this lens. I will also show you the best ways to pick a responsive list because they are definitely not all created equal. You can't base your decision on how many people you mail to. The most important question is "Are people reading my emails".

I hope you find this information useful. Please take the time to leave a comment and give me a rating wether it be good or bad.

Free Email Advertising With Safelists...Type 1

The "Standard" Safelist.

There are 4 different types of safelists that you will find on the internet although the the 4th is not very common.

The first is what I call your "standard" safelist. This is the first type of safelist to come out. You send an allotted number of emails to a designated number of members and that is that. You don't worry about credits. The number of times you send and the amount are determined by the membership structure. A prime example would be Herculist.

Free members get to send to 700 random members one time per week. If you join Pro, which is $9.95 per month, you get to send to all members once every 2 days. Right now the membership is at 44,400 members. Last of all, you can join Gold and mail to the entire list once everyday. Gold membership is $14.95 per month.

Now I know you are thinking, "Wow, that is a lot of people", but these type of lists are the least responsive. The problem is that there is no incentive for the other members to read your emails.

I can send out the same email to a list like this with 40,000 members and to a credit based list of only 300 members and get more emails read by the 300 member safelist.

This is not to say that the standard safelist cannot be effective. The key to using this kind of safelist is your subject line. You must have an eye grabbing subject line that compels your potential reader to open the email.

You must do this while conforming to the guidelines set by the safelist owner. Subject lines that are misleading will cause you to get banned from the safelist. All in all, this is my least favorite type of safelist, but I still use them.

Free Email Advertising With Safelists...Type 2.

The "Credit Based" Safelist

This type of safelist is probably the most responsive. Members cannot send their emails unless they have credits in their account. Normally 1 credit = 1 email you can send. Credits are earned by clicking links in other members emails.

This guarantees that your emails will be opened. There is no guarantee that it will be read. The reader is mostly searching for the link to click on to get his/her credits and move on.

That is why it is important that you try to use html where permitted. The standard type of safelist requires a strong subject line. The credit based email must grab your attention once the email is opened. You want to entice the reader to actually stop and read the email instead of moving on to the next in search of more credits.

Credit based safelists also have different levels of membership. The incentive to pay per month instead of going with the free membership is the amount of times you can mail and the pro levels usually give you a certain amount of credits per month where as the free members must read emails to earn all of their credits. Pro members usually earn more credits per email read as well.

Free Email Advertising With Safelists...Type 3.

The "Hybrid" Safelist

These kinds of safelists are what you will most likely run across. They are a mixture of the first two that we have discussed. You earn credits by reading other peoples emails but there is also a "standard" mailer that lets you send to the list without any credits.

Once again, the number of members and times you can send are determined by the different memberships that are available. I don't necessarily recommend upgrading, especially paying on a monthly basis.

If you find that you like using safelists, as I do, then keep your eye out for specials. I have been using safelists for over 3 years now and I am a premium member in all my favorites. The way I accomplished this is by waiting for they owners to run a special and offer a lifetime membership.

If you are promoting multiple products and services, it is well worth the $50-$100 to get a lifetime executive membership that lets you send 6 or more emails a day and gives you all the credits you need so you don't have to spend hours reading emails to earn credits.

These types of safelists where my favorite until I ran across the next type that I am going to talk about. To see the safelists that I use on a daily basis to make a living online, Click Here.

The "No Mail" Safelist

This is by far my favorite type of safelist. I am sure there are more but I have only run across two and one of them is mine! This type of safelist does not send out emails.

The members login and post their emails to the system. Then other members login and view the emails like a traffic exchange. The beauty of this system is that there are no wasted credits.

Even with a credit based email, a large percentage of your emails do not get read. The problem is that you sent your email to 500 members and 500 credits was deducted from your account.

This system only deducts a credit when some one views your email. Credits are earned by viewing other emails. It is a very simple and efficient setup.

I got the idea from My Free Safelist and liked it so much that I started my own safelist, JT's Ad Venture, using the same script.

Safelists And Traffic Exchanges

Free Traffic Double Whammy

I have put together a website that contains a viral system called Traffic Hits Multiplier that uses traffic exchanges to build your opt in list and drive traffic to your website. By using this system in conjunction with free safelist advertising, I have been able to add 100 plus members to my opt in list per month on a regular basis for free.

Safelists and traffic exchanges are the perfect medium for advertising a lead capture page. Especially if you are giving something away for free like a report or in my case, the viral system. So many people try to use direct marketing tactics and have horrible results.

This is why you will here a lot of people say that safelists and traffic exchanges don't work. Well you are not going to make any sales or get any sign ups by promoting an affiliate sales page. You have to identify your potential audience and target your marketing accordingly.

You are not going to make any direct sales, but you can certainly build an opt in list that you can groom for future sales down the road. That is the true secret to using safelists and most types of free traffic.
