Is Your Puppy Food Safe?
What Makes A Safe Puppy Food?
When preservatives are present in dog food then the dog food is not safe!
What makes a food safe for a puppy? The first is the absence of preservatives. If a puppy food contains no preservatives then it either can not sit on a store shelf or it contains no meat.Considering dogs need a high amount of meat in their diet its fairly safe to assume that most dog food is not vegetarian. Then again almost all dog food sits on a shelf for long periods of time. I think it's safe to say that all dog food has preservatives in it.
But what about organic and natural puppy food. They claim to have no preservatives in them. The dog food manufactures have a built in safety net when it comes to being dishonest with the consumers.
By law they do not have to claim anything in their food that has been added before it comes to their plant.
Preservatives Are Present In The Food We Eat So What Makes It So Bad For Dogs?
Preservitives are bad for everyone but what makes it worse for dogs is the kind of preservatives they use.
One of the preservatives in all dry dog food is called Ethoxyquin (EQ). EQ was banned from are food many years ago because it was dangerous. Factory workers who were exposed to EQ develop the same side effects that are found when exposed to Agent Orange. A dramatic rise in liver or kidney damage, cancerous skin lesions, hair loss, blindness, leukemia, and fetal abnormalities. In animals EQ has been linked to immune deficiency syndrome, spleen, liver, and stomach cancers, and a host of allergies.
EQ is just one of three dangerous preservatives they use in dog food.

An average dog can live up to eight years longer when given the nutrition their body needs.Homemade dog food is not hard to make nor does it take a long time but don't run out to the store to make homemade dog food without doing your homework first. If your dog does not get the proper nutrition you could actually cause him more harm then good. Like most things, if it's worth doing then it's worth doing right.
