We all know that dogs love fetching sticks. The instinct to retrieve is very powerful especially in working dog breeds like labradors.
Wood sticks however are responsible for some very nasty dog injuries. A missed catch, an awkward pick up and your dog can be stabbed by a stick causing terrible injuries in some cases.
Now I'm not going to provide any pictures of dog stick injuries because they are too distressing. Sticks can kill your dog. There are some harrowing images on Google of gruesome eye injuries, impaled dogs and so on. I'm sure you don't need me to explain.
When we were out walking our labrador Grace the other day in our local park we saw a dog owner throwing a bright orange artificial stick. We got talking and he said it was the best toy he had ever bought his dog. The dog never leaves it alone, it's durable and most important of all its safe.
He gave us the name of the toy which is called Safestix. The stick doesn't splinter or break, its flexible so that it bends if your dog 'charges it down'. That way you dog doesn't get stabbed, and splinters don't break off into your dogs mouth. When we got home we checked out Safestix which originate from the UK. We bought one straight away and our dog loves it. We can't recommend it highly enough. A brilliant idea!
