Attention to Detail, a Must!
If you're serious about becoming a Photoshop Guru, you should probably start honing your eye for detail now. Hopefully by the time you're making the big bucks you're savvy enough to double-check your file for potentially embarrassing mistakes before you send it to the printer. Don't count on the Art Director to do this for you.
Leaving the place-holder lorem-ipsum text in your file is not going to make you look professional. The funny thing is, everyone's first comment to a sign like the one pictured here, is 'why didn't the printer catch that?'
The truth is the printer probably did catch it but there's nothing he can do about it. With the market forcing the printers to compete based on price the services that made a printer a valuable member of the advertising team have been eliminated. Unfortunately those services are being sorely missed.
It's hard not to laugh when you see something like this smack-dab in the middle of the shopping mall. I'm sure somewhere there's a Photoshop 'hopeful' wishing s/he had double checked the file before sending it to print. Mistakes like this are very costly and reflect poorly on the company.
