Sailor Moon Anime Series

The anime series Sailor Moon was one of my favorites growing up. It would come on each day right before Dragonball Z. During the years Sailor Moon has had a sort of cult following. It features the story of Sailor Moon otherwise known as Serena or the Moon Princess. She helps fight evil with the other Sailor Scouts including Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Venus, and Sailor Jupiter. Later the other Sailor Scouts including Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, Sailor Pluto, and Sailor Saturn appear in the series.

The anime series consisted of 200 episodes separated into five seasons: Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon SuperS, and Sailor Stars. In the United States it aired on Cartoon Network where it was dubbed into English. Some scenes were cut out being deemed inappropriate for the target market of young girls. Most notably, in the later episodes of the Sailor Moon anime series, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are depicted as cousins. They are in fact a couple in the original Japanese anime.

The anime series is based on the Sailor Senshi manga series. A manga is a Japanese comic book. The Sailor Moon anime series also consisted of several movies and remains popular among girls even today.

Sailor Moon is the Moon Princess who later becomes Queen Serenity. When the show begins she does not know who she truly is or the powers that she holds. Nor does she know the destiny that awaits her. She is by no means the ideal hero as she can be whiny much of the time. However, she has a good heart and comes through when the going gets tough. She is known as Serena to everyone around her.

Sailor Moon's main ability is her Moon Prism Power move in which she throws her tiara at her enemies destroying them.

Hot tempered and a bit bossy, Sailor Mars otherwise known as Rei, has powers that focus mainly on the element of fire. Rei is always arguing with Sailor Moon who she gets frustrated with because of her whiny attitude. However, when push comes to shove and Sailor Moon is in danger, Sailor Mars has given her own life to protect her.

Sailor Jupiter

Sailor Jupiter, otherwise known as Lita in the English version of the show, is the Sailor Soldier whose abilities draw on the power of lightning. She is very tall and strong. Sailor Jupiter is a bit of a tomboy. She is easy going and fun. She is also a wonderful cook and is depicted throughout the series as making wonderful meals.

Sailor Mercury, or Amy to her friends, is shy, sweet, and kind to others. She is also the nerd and brains of the group. Though Sailor Mercury is somewhat reserved, when things have gotten tough she has come through and shown her true strength. Sailor Mercury's abilities focus on the element of water.

Sailor Venus

Pretty Sailor Soldier Sailor Venus

Sailor Venus, also known as Mina, is the first one to awaken her powers. However, she is the fifth one to be found by Sailor Moon. She is actually the leader of the Sailor Senshi or other Sailor Soldiers who are sworn to protect Sailor Moon (Princess Serenity). Sailor Venus is fun, energetic, and a central character over in Japan.

Her abilities focus on light and energy, and one of her main powers is the Love Chain move.

    I enjoy anime. I don't get into it as much any more though, don't really have much time for it. I loved Sailor Moon though. I loved the morals, the friendship, the gadgets and of course you can't forget the talking cats Luna and Artemis! Great lens on a well deserved anime show.
