How Small Business Owners Can Increase Sales By a Factor of 10
Remember the excitement and raw thrill you had when you started your business? Remember that sense of knowing it would all work out, and how that conviction, that feeling you would win, propelled you forward despite the uncertainties and doubts that would have stopped most other people from even trying!
How to improve sales: small business revenue boosts require that same entrepreneurial spirit, that same determination to make it happen even though you have no idea how it will come about. And therein is the secret - get out of your mind!
As long as you analyze the situation you will never make the sales leap. You will only produce incremental improvements at best. For the time and effort it takes to make marginal gains it really is not worthwhile aiming for small percentage revenue growth.
What is the answer?
The secret is to put your unconscious mind to work on figuring out a great solution. As long as you know how to communicate with your unconscious you can tap into its tremendous processing power at any time.
The first step is to define a sales target that is beyond what you feel is possible, exciting enough to want to hit it and with a purpose that goes beyond money. Goals like these are easy to set when you make a game of it.
Think about doubling your current sales volume...
- does that seem possible?
- does it excite you?
- a purpose beyond money would be satisfied?
For example, at 10 times current sales, you´d be the industry leader, you´d have achieved the impossible and feel like you have arrived, and you would finally feel secure about the financial future of your family.
Unless all three criteria are met keep raising the bar - try three times, four times and so on until you are moved emotionally. You might find that 10 times current sales revenue is what does it for you.
What happens next?
1. Let go of the emotions attached to the goal
When you do this you ensure feelings of overwhelm do not stop you from moving ahead. You also drop all fear and greed that could lead to poor decision-making.
2. Don´t expect the conscious mind to figure it out
Engage the unconscious mind by first of all exhausting all the possibilities the conscious mind can come up with. Do this by spending 60 minutes focused on trying to figure out how to produce ten times the current sales revenue. Write down every single idea no matter how absurd and put your conscious mind under pressure to keep coming up with sales ideas for at least one hour.
Then, forget about this entire exercise for two to three days. In the meantime your unconscious mind will be working on the problem while you are going about your day and especially while you are sleeping.
There are more steps involved but if you follow the few tips covered in this short article you will be well on the way towards enjoying more sales - small business heaven!
