Salsa: Latin Music from Spanish Harlem

The Spanish rhythms of Latin Music, especially Salsa, get you out of your chair and just make you want to dance. Some amazing Latin Music came out of Spanish Harlem and found its way into the world. The music and the dance that accompany it are called Salsa. You know Salsa when you hear that Latin Music sound and you just can't help but jump up to dance, but do your children know Salsa?

How can we teach a love of Salsa to our children? Will this form of Latin Music be lost to the children growing up today? How will today's children learn about Latin Music? Will our kids come to love Latin Music and Salsa in particular? This is what was going through Andy Blackman Horowitz's mind when he decided to write a book for young children to introduce them to the music of Spanish Harlem. His story will also introduce children to the Latin music artists who created this amazing style of music.

Written by Andy Blackman Horowitz Salsa for Kittens and Puppies introduces young children to Salsa. With Spanish rhythms and dance, children are introduced to the music of Latin Americans who brought their music from Cuba, and Puerto Rico mixed it with African roots and launched it into the world.

The Story of Otis Redding as a Latin Music Cat

Salsa for Kittens & Puppies (Book & CD)

Join Otis the cat on his annual birthday romp through New York City.

Each year his mother has a picnic for Otis in Central Park. It's a very musical picnic, because Otis prepares a special sauce that makes everyone in the city dance to Salsa music.

Each of the friends that arrive at the picnic brings a musical instrument. When all the guests arrive, Otis brings out his piano and they all play Latin Music, the music of Spanish Harlem. They play Salsa.

I'd like to LEARN the salsa - sounds like fun. I'd like to KNOW Spanish: understanding more people always interests me. However I know how much work it is to learn a new language :( (especially after 30)

clouda9 says:

Hello! How to Salsa like the stars :)

ArtByLinda says:

Evelyn_Saenz says:

Spanish, the language of Latin Music

anka_n says:

I started to understand Spanish listening to Spanish music. Music is a good way to improve a foreign language.

Heather426 says:

I already know how to Salsa, but I want to learn more Spanish.

Alexwinnipeg says:

I can't even dance ..anything! I am unable to dance whatever I have to, I can imagine myself dancing like those Cuba guys living in one of those Winnipeg apartments near my home. They were the whole day :"Oye! mi hermano" and call you like: "ven aca" !

GrowWear says:

At my age, I'd better go with learning Spanish. The older I get, the more I feel like a clod hopper when I dance. Well, I haven't danced lately to find this out; I almost fell by sliding on some ice on the back porch. The total absence of grace when I tried to catch myself felt, well, quite clod-hoppy. :)

Evelyn_Saenz says:

Learning Spanish is lots of fun. I especially love to practice Spanish while singing along to my favorite Salsa Artists.

This lens Amazing. I'm kinda a hybrid. My eldest daughter is a senior this year, my two boys both go to Public School. My daughter seems to be a gifted girl with strengths both audio sequential, and visual. She's so organized its spooky. My sons are both dealing with some sort of lds, different ones for each of course. yikes! I knew it would be too much for me to try to accomidate all three. But that's just me. i applaud how long and hard you must have worked behind the scenes to accomplish this lens. Wow!! How long approximately did it take to get good at all the tech. I'm just floored after trying for two days to get my first up and completed. Wow.
    Sincerely Anna
