What is Salsacise?

Salsacise is a fusion between an aerobics exercise or workout and Latin Dancing. You can include it in your cardio exercise routine to spice up your workouts. It is guaranteed to make you sweat plus you will have fun doing the exercises. You do not have to attend an exercise class or a special dance class in order to do salsacise. You can do it in the comfort of your own home. Just make sure you close the curtains, turn up the music and let yourself go!!! It works out your whole body especially the waist, hips and bum areas as you will be doing a lot of twisting and twirling about.

You can exercise in the comfort of your own homes.

Don't be shy. Try it. It is fun!

Kathy Smith's Latin Rhythm Workout

I am a fan of Kathy Smith so what can I say. I have this one as I do most of her other exercise tapes. This is basic, fun and easy. Don't expect a rough workout or strenuous routine here. If you like to push yourself during workouts then this is not for you but it is useful to get for the fun factor as well as to alternate your workouts for lighter days. Beginners should be able to follow this one easily.

Dancing is low and medium impact

Dancing is a low to medium impact activity. It is good for cardio if you do it repetitively and sweat it out in the process. However, it is always good to alternate it with either toning or more high impact activities. You can use if for in-between days or daily if you just want to move your body around instead of staying sedentary.

Salsacise is easy!

Salsa Dancing is sexy, sizzling and romantic

Salsacise is not hard!

If you can't attend a class or there isn't one near you, you can start by using a salsa or dance dvd. Once you have got the basic moves, all you need is the right music and you can salsacise on your own.

That was what I did. I don't enjoy running on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike. I don't mind doing aerobics but doing it on my own was no fun. Then when I discovered that dancing can be a good form of cardio exercise, I started to incoporate more and more dance routines into my workouts. This is what I did.

1. I searched on YouTube videos to watch some salsa dance exercise classes. This was to give me and idea of whether I would like to do this form of exercise. I am afraid that on YouTube that is all you can do. You can't get a whole exercise routine for dance. Perhaps you can get some warm up and stretching videos for free but most of the salsa dancing videos are promotional videos, so you just get 3 or 5 minute clips which are not very meaningful when it comes to exercising.

2. Next, I went out and got myself some dvds on salsacise. I have got quite a collection since I like variety in my routine. I don't like to do the same exercises over and over again.

3. Now that I know some moves, all I need is the right music. If you are hardworking, you can search for some salsa or latin music on YouTube and put them altogether in a playlist but that is too much work or you could try to listen to some internet radio with Latin music. However, you don't get to choose and you may end up having some slow and fast music in the mix. If you internet connection is bad, then you get a start stop start stop which spoils your routine. The best thing is to get a good audio cd for latin music.

That is it. As for books, forget about books! You don't read up on how to dance, you just dance!

Tip on how to get started on Salsacise

If combining dancing in your workout is new to you, try what I did.

1. Watch YouTube videos to get an idea of what it is all about
2. Get a DVD and try it out at home (If you can't attend a class)
3. Get some hot Latin Dance music and dance to the basic moves you learned

Salsacise is Evergreen

Salsacise has been around for years. If you are planning to get a salsa workout dvd, you don't have to get the very latest there is. The dance moves are evergreen. Some of those I have date back to 10 years ago. Maybe the costumes or clothing are a little outdated but the moves are the same.

What is the difference between Salsacise and Zumba?

I did say not to read but if you are one of those types that just must read, then you can check up this Wikipedia page which describes salsa dancing origins, movements, rhythm and style. You might also want to read up about zumba and know the difference between salsacise and zumba.

You will find that the definition of zumba in Wikipedia is more broad incorporating belly dance, hip hop and even some martial art elements in addition to salsa dancing whereas salsacise is more focussed on latin dance.

OMG! As part of health classes at work they brought in someone to do zumba. Nope, I can't make my body move like that. LOL

I don't really have the hips to be good at any Latin dancing, but this looks like it would be a very good workout! Similar to Zumba? I'm off to a Zumba class as we speak...Salsacise might have to be next! :)
