Dancers are Definitely Better Lovers!

But some of us already knew that. (wink, wink) There didn't need to be studies to prove it, as far as we were concerned. Experience had already revealed the truth of that statement.

Okay, perhaps I am a bit biased. I mean, after all, I love to dance. I always have.

I can remember when I was just a wee little lass, there would be music constantly playing at our family events, and I would be dancing to it. And then as I grew up, anywhere the opportunity presented itself, I would be moving my body to the magic of the music.

When I was old enough, my friends and I would drive anywhere for a dance party, staying out all night into the early morning hours, dancing to rock, disco, country, bluegrass. You name it, we danced, stomped, kicked our heels to it. And after the bands stopped playing, or the DJ quit spinning, we'd head home, exhausted, but happy. And ready to do it all again the next evening.

As much as I love to dance, though, I never took any classes in "formal" dancing, other than one or two ballet classes before I went to grade school. I've always had an aversion to it. Perhaps it's because in many of these structured dances, the man is the "Leader" and the woman is the "Follower."

Attribute it to my strong independent spirit, or my desire to express myself in my own way, but I never had an interest in learning any of those dances that required being held in the arms of another.

That is until one November evening in Vero Beach, Florida.

It was 2 and a half years ago, and I was on a first date with a man who treated me to a fabulous dinner, a fine bottle of wine, and intellectually stimulating conversation. We were enjoying each other's company so much, we decided to go for a drive. The next thing I knew, we were stopped in a dimly lit and completely empty shopping center parking lot.

My date opened both car doors, cranked up the music until it was spilling out into the night air, and began teaching me how to dance Salsa, all under a star-lit sky. It was so romantic, I couldn't help but fall in love... with Salsa!!

Since that evening, I've learned what it's like to experience the exhilaration of gliding across the floor in the arms of a dance partner who understands the fun and excitement in sharing the music with another. I've met people whose lives were "saved" by the gift of dance, and whose broken relationships were mended and healed by the intimacy that dancing brought to their lives.

But none of this explains why dancers are better lovers. You might be reading this to find out that very answer.
