The Salton Sea
In sunny Southern California is the state's largest inland lake, the Salton Sea. It's an incredible resource for the people and wildlife that live in the Imperial and Coachella valleys. The sea is an oasis in a dessert and at one point was a booming lake with many marinas, homes, and was a popular vacation hotspot.
With the growth in population and development in Southern California, the sea is shrinking. And as it shrinks, it salinity increases. The Salton Sea is a rich source of tilapia which is popular for dining and is a favorite fish for many species of migrating birds. As the sea declines, so does the local communities and so will the local quality of life.
