Sammy on the Patty Duke Show ~ March 3, 1965
Sammy was in 'Golden Boy' and there is one line referencing his appearance on Broadway. "Coming to see Sammy win the big fight again?" by the stage door man. Also a poster for Golden Boy is outside the stage door when Patty tries to see Sammy right before the prom.
One of Sammy's Rat Pack buddies makes a cameo appearance in Part Three.
Sammy Davis ~ A brief biography
Get yourself re-acquainted with the World's Greatest Entertainer
Samuel George "Sammy" Davis, Jr. (December 8, 1925 ? May 16, 1990) was an American entertainer.
Primarily a dancer and singer, Davis was a childhood vaudevillian, and became internationally famous for his performances on Broadway and Las Vegas, as a recording artist, television and film star, and the only black member of Frank Sinatra's "Rat Pack".
At the age of three Davis began his career in vaudeville with his father and "uncle" as the Will Mastin Trio, toured nationally, and after military service, returned to the trio. Davis became an overnight sensation following a well received nightclub performance at Ciro's after the 1951 Academy Awards, with the trio, became a recording artist, and made his first film performances later that decade. Losing his left eye in a car accident in 1954, he converted to Judaism and appeared in the first Rat Pack movie, "Ocean's Eleven" in 1960. After a starring role on Broadway in 1956's "Mr Wonderful", Davis returned to the stage in 1964's "Golden Boy". Davis's career slowed in the late sixties, but he scored a hit record with "The Candy Man", in 1972, and became a star attraction in Las Vegas.
In 1966 he had own TV Variety show called the Sammy Davis Jr. Show.
As an African-American and Hispanic, Davis was the victim of racism throughout his life, and was a large financial supporter of various civil rights causes. Davis had a complex relationship with the black community, and attracted criticism after physically embracing Richard Nixon in 1970.
One day on a golf course with Jack Benny, he was asked what his handicap was. "Handicap?" he asked. "Talk about handicap ? I'm a one-eyed Negro Jew." Religion: Jewish Negro Time Magazine February 1, 1960 Sammy Davis Jr. Is My Mixed Marriage Mixing Up My Kids - Ebony Magazine October, 1966 pg. 124 This was to become a signature comment, recounted in his autobiography, and in countless articles. After reuniting with Sinatra and Dean Martin in 1987, Davis toured with them and Liza Minnelli internationally, before dying of throat cancer in 1990. Davis died heavily in debt to the Internal Revenue Service, and his estate was the subject of complicated legal battles.
Davis was awarded the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP, and was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for his television performances. He was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 1987, and in 2001, he was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

She is listening to Sammy again!?
Friends..what can you do? I saw Sammy as hip, happening and a very cool cat - my friends thought I was crazy for listening to old music and when they saw I also had Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra records...oh my! So when they came over, we enoyed the other records in my collection Janis, Jimi, Jim, James Taylor, Carly Simon, David Bowie, The Who, Stones, Beatles, etc. No one was more shocked than I when they wanted to listen to Sammy when Candyman was on the radio. Sammy did make pop music cool! One of his signature songs ~ The Candy Man

Sammy's Number #1 Hit in 1972
"The Candy Man" (or alternately, "The Candy Man Can") is a song from the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. It was written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley specifically for the film and does not appear in the original book or the 2005 film adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was sung by Aubrey Woods, who played Bill the candy store owner in the original film.

The Rat Pack Years
The Rat Pack was a supergroup of actors and jazz musicians originally centered on Humphrey Bogart. In the mid-1960s it was the name used by the press and the general public to refer to a group that called itself "the summit" or "the clan," featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, who appeared together on stage and in films in the early-1960s, including the movie Ocean's Eleven''.UNLV Libraries, The Rat Pack, retrieved May 2, 2007
Despite its reputation as a masculine group, the Rat Pack did have female participants, including movie icons Shirley MacLaine, Lauren Bacall, Angie Dickinson, Marilyn Monroe, and Judy Garland.
