The ASPCA's Free Sample! Here's a free pet emergency kit! Free pet rescue window decals to alert emergency personnel and a poison control magnet!

Firemen have always been my heroes (along with my brother, Lassie & The Littlest Hobo!)

During a neighborhood house fire I observed that since the people were out and safe the rescue focused solely on rescuing the pets trapped inside. I witnessed a fireman remove his own oxygen mask and place it over the face of a cat suffering from smoke inhalation. I love that guy.

Free Museum Admission

Museums usually offer a free or reduced admission night on a regular basis. Check with your local museums to learn about free admission nights. You may also want to check with your local library as often libraries offer free passes to area museums on a first come first served basis.

Here's a short list of museums that offer a free admission night for my area, Boston Massachusetts:

Institute of Contemporary Art
offers free admission for all every Thursday evening from 5 to 9pm. Free for youth 17 and under. Free admission for families (up to 2 adults accompanied by children 12 and under) on the last Saturday of each month with the exception of December.

Harvard Museum of Natural History
Free to MA residents every Sunday morning (year-round) from 9 am to noon and on Wednesdays from 3 to 5 pm (September through May) excluding commercial groups

Bank of America offers cardholders free admission to museums in their area the first full weekend of every month. To find out more about this program visit Museums on Us.

The participating Boston area museums are:

Museum of Fine Arts
Harvard Museum of Natural History
DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park
Danforth Museum of Art

Gas Price Gizmo

If you drive you might want to visit automotive.com . They have a handy dandy little widget that allows you to enter your zip code and then produces a list of your local stations and gas prices.

Not a freebie but pretty cool.

Trade your junk

for someone elses

Freecycle is a steadily growing grassroots initiative. When you join this network of like-minded folks you can trade your unwanted things for their unwanted things. Pretty neat idea.

Over $32 Billion in Unclaimed Property

great resource!

There is an estimated $32 billion worth of unclaimed property and funds nationwide.

The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators or NAUPA, and the affiliated website they established, missingmoney.com, are legitimate resources that let you search for unclaimed property absolutely free of charge.

Check them out, and best of luck!

How do you fill out forms?

When filling out my name and address on sample request forms I always use the AutoFill feature on my browser. I've heard some people say they use form filler programs like RoboForm (free), and my mother still types everything in manually. So I'm curious now, how do other people deal with filling out freebie forms?

Duel Debate:

Samplers are Frugal Shoppers - Samplers are Cheap

One day my neighbor was out of toothpaste so I shared with her a free sample that I had requested and not yet tried. She thanked me and then jokingly added, "Cheap Skate!"

I was insulted. Then I realized that she didn't get it. Free samplers are frugal.

I replied "How many times have you purchased a product that claimed to do one thing but didn't actually perform as advertised?
How much time? How many times? ....have you shopped around searching for a new product that might work only to find the same product(s) that you have already tried?
How many products have you purchased, tried and been dissatisfied with?
How much time? How much money?....did you lose trying to return that product?"

She thought about it.

I asked her to try the toothpaste and if she liked it, purchase it & let the company know. If she disliked it, tell them and don't buy it.

So then I decided it's time for a duel and here it is....

Do you think samplers are frugal shoppers who waste not or do you think samplers are cheap skates?

Frugal?

Tell.Me.Bout.It says:

You gotta try somtin befor ya buy it mate!

Traci says:

Call me frugal and proud of it.

Jewelz says:

try it before you buy it

Marti says:

I think trying something before buying it makes me a WISE Shopper, not a cheap shopper. In today's economy every penny counts for 99.99999% of us. Those who think we samplers are cheap, are clueless.

Fran Martin says:

frugal shoppers who waste not

Cheap?

whoisbid says:

I have given away samples in the past of very expensive things. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not. I think the idea is good and if you are lucky you will get the right prospective client and if not, then too bad!
