Samsung Galaxy S3

We loved the Samsung Galaxy S2, But now Samsung Galaxy S3 will be here. A gorgeous screen, super-fast processor and awesome camera made it a great competitor to the iPhone. So news that its follow-up is on the way has us giddy with excitement.

Samsung will announce the Samsung Galaxy S3 at Mobile World Congress in February, BGR reports. And as well as some pretty awesome specs -- including a 720p screen, quad-core processor, Ice Cream Sandwich and all the rest -- it'll have 3D, that'll integrate it with enabled TVs. That's the rumour, anyway.

3D smart phones have gone a little quiet of late, since the launch of the LG Optimus 3D, anyway. But if a handset as eagerly anticipated as the S3 were to pack it, it could spark a resurgence in interest. Then again, it might not.

These specs aren't confirmed either, coming from Korean website ETNews. But they sound pretty on the money, Samsung Galaxy SIII will come with a 720p Super AMOLED Plus screen (similar to that seen on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, but a lot smaller, obviously), 2GB of RAM, and Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Sounds pretty great, if true.

What is for certain is that expectations are high for the Samsung Galaxy S3. The S2 scored four-and-a-half out of five, and sold 3 million in just 55 days, so we've high hopes for the follow-up. But don't worry if you're not quite ready to upgrade yet, the S2 will get the update to Ice Cream Sandwich at the start of next year -- hopefully before March, if Samsung sticks to its schedule. So while you won't have 3D or that amazing new screen, you will have the same software on an already rather excellent handset.

Samsung's upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3 handset is set to 'go 3D', according to leaks from the company's native Korea.
The handset could display 3D films and games on its screen, and even plug into 3D televisions to 'play' 3D content such as photos.
The handset is due to launch in February, and will sport hi-tech features such as an AMOLED screen capable of 720p hi def.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 will also have 2GB of RAM, said the leak, reported by Korean news site ET News.
Rivals such as LG and HTC already offer 3D handsets - using glasses-free technology to make objects 'leap out' of the screen, and armed with dual-lens 3D cameras.
But the lack of games and videos that use 3D has meant that neither handset has been a huge seller.
Samsung's cult Galaxy handsets are a different matter.
The existence of a Galaxy S3 is an absolute certainty after the runaway success of Samsung's Galaxy S2, which sold 10 million units at last count, helping to propel Samsung's smartphone sales past Apple's in the third quarter of 2011.
The new handset will launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February.
