Samsung GO Netbook - Best Netbook for Kids

When I started my research for a Netbook, I found a lot of options, but not many for children. Disney is marketing a Netbook for ages 7 - 12. It looks like a good starting point for younger children to play games and surf the Internet safely. But my children are in middle school and need less games and more writing and research capabilities. And there is also the ability to withstand a sometimes clumsy teenager with their sodas, etc.

I am not technically inclined so when you start talking Gigabytes and RAM - my eyes start to glaze over! I just want to know if it has enough room to run a "Word" type program and room to save some files (or a USB port to insert a flash drive). But for those individuals that need this kind of information - here it is. The Samsung GO Netbook comes with 1.6Ghz Intel processor, 1GB Ram, and 160GB Hard drive. The battery has up to 9 hours of life - that is pretty good for a preteen or teen - they like to wander around with their computer! The screen is small - 10.1 inches, but for young eyes I think that is very doable! They probably won't be watching movies on it (at least only occasionally!). It weighs only 2.9 lbs so it is very lightweight!

The cover of the Netbook has a rubberized surface that is durable and easy-to-grip - no dropping (hopefully!)! The keys are large enough for their fingers. There are 3 USB ports for the flash drives.

I think this is a good starting computer for a preteen/teen in middle to early high school years. It can also be good for mom or dad to take on the road to stay connected with everyone at home!
