For only $100, you can get the Samsung ML 6050 printer. It is intended to replace the more expensive inkjet devices. Ever since it was released, it has dominated the price conscious market. Although it is considered an entry-level printer, it has a performance level and print quality from the Samsung 6050 toner cartridges that rivals its more expensive counterparts.
The device can deliver up to 12 pages per minute, which makes it great when compared to other entry-level laser printers. It also has an impressive 550 sheet paper tray that is more than five times the capacity of any other device in its class. This device gives other printers a run for their money.
It is powered by a 67 MHz processor and 4 MB of RAM. The memory size is a little disappointing since it bottlenecks the device. You will have a hard time printing heavy graphics because of the limited memory. However, you can upgrade it to a maximum of 68 MB. It uses a 72-pin EDO SIMM, which is very affordable. You might have a hard time finding one, since new laser printers use the 100-pin DIMM rather than the old 72-pin EDO.
The Samsung ML 6050 was able to provide adequate print quality. The text and graphics were fine and subtle. Unfortunately, when we tried using the 1,200 dpi feature, the printer refused to print. We tried experimenting with the Samsung Resolution Enhancement Technology, but it still did not work. We were forced to reduce it to 600 dpi. Like other laser printers, this is best suited for basic printing needs. It is not intended for photo or detail oriented printing.
The package includes a Samsung ML cartridges that can print 3,000 pages. You can also buy a new one for about $100, which makes each page cost around 3.3 cents. This is a little expensive for a laser printer. If you want to save a lot more money, you can always use the Toner Save feature. This is a great feature if you are printing text documents since it only uses half the amount of toner. A single page can cost 1.65 cents with Toner Save, which is a lot lower than any personal laser printer. Bear in mind this is not recommended for graphic printing since it cause some contrast problems.
The Samsung ML 6050 printer can be connected via a USB or parallel cable. The two ports on the device make sure that everybody will be able to use it. However, it lacks a Ethernet port for networking. If you want the same features plus networking capability, you might want to consider getting the ML 6060 instead.
The machine uses up around 300 watts, which is similar to any personal laser printer. However, when the machine is in an idle state, it only uses up 30 watts. In addition, the device is EPA Energy Star compliant.
The printer has one-year standard warranty. If you encounter problems with the product, you can always contact their 24/7 technical support team via phone. You can even download the latest compatible software and drivers in Samsung's website.
In summary, the print quality and high capacity paper tray are the two main selling points of the Samsung ML 6050 printer. If you print a lot of text documents, printing costs will be a great benefit, thanks to the Toner Save feature. This is a great device for basic text and graphic printing, but it is an inadequate photo printer.
For the types of printing for which this device is geared, the Samsung ML 6050 printer toner cartridge performs admirably. Anyone familiar with Samsung toner won't find this surprising, however, locating toner cartridges online at great prices will be a pleasant find.
