Get Outdoors in San Diego!

I love to do outdoor things here in my hometown and I want to share some of the outdoor places that I have found fun or interesting. I plan to limit this lens to only places in San Diego County. From time to time, I may list events that I hear about regarding outdoor activities around the area.

Check out this place for Winter 2009/2010

Coyote Canyon in the Anza Borrego

Road heading northwest through Coyote Canyon. This is the best time of year to visit the Coyote Canyon area of the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. You can either access it via Di Giorgio Road going north from Borrego Springs. Or, you can access it from the north through Anza. But, the last time I did that, I had to drive several miles of dirt road just to get to the park entrance.

If you are a wildlife enthusiast or like to look at plants, this is a good place to go as plant and animal life abounds in this area. But, be warned, you will definitely need four wheel drive if you want to go past the "first crossing" of Coyote Creek (if you are entering from Borrego). This is especially true in the winter when the creek fills up and is often very muddy or watery. However, there is plenty to enjoy in the area if you can't go any further.

Another thing I want to mention is that military jets do fly over the area quite often, but not all the time. I've been there many times when I saw no jets at all fly over.
Close up of Ocotillo in a dorment phase. In the winter, this should be blooming.
