A Sandwich Journey

I'm pretty sure that a Sandwich is the most versatile of all food categories. Think about the dozens of different Sandwiches you alone have made, and the thousands still waiting for you to try.

The is one food group where if you like something it is bound to make a good sandwich. Tomatoes, meats, tofu, spices, cheeses, fish, veggies and on and on. Is there anything editable that you can't put on a Sandwich? Of course one persons great sandwich creation might send the guests running for the exit, that is no reason not to experiment with everything you have in your kitchen,

Deeply Layer Your Sandwich

create a masterpiece between slices of bread

The bread is kind of like a picture frame but it's the many layers between the bread that gives color, texture and spectacular flavor to the sandwich. I always like to spread mayonnaise on each slice of bread if it is going to be in contact with veggies, I think the texture and flavor of the mayo is best with veggies. If meat or cheese is going to come in contact with the bread I use some sort of mustard to add a tang to each bite of the sandwich. Ketchup is something I never use on a sandwich but always on hamburgers.

Sandwich Contrast

I'm one of those people who likes lots of different flavors calling out to me when I bite into a sandwich. I encourage you to think "contrast" in flavors as you put together sandwiches with either new or old recipes.

Here are a couple of examples using turkey.

1. On some nice whole wheat bread, I use firm bread not the airy type. Spread the bread with a nice honey mustard and then layer with turkey, red onion slices, some black pepper, cucumber slices and some cheddar cheese. If everything is fresh you will create a song when you bite into this sandwich.

2. On a nice rye bread spread your favorite humus, I like it with green onions for this sandwich. Layer your turkey, if you fold the turkey into loose rolls before you put it on the bread you will bring out more flavor. Next add sliced black olives, some thin sliced tomatoes and finish off with alfalfa sprouts. Mmmmmmmm so good!
