Dracula: Dead and Loving It (Trailer 1995)
Another spoof from the mind of Mel Brooks. This time he's out to poke fun at the Dracula myth. Basically, he took "Bram Stoker's Dracula," gave it a new cast and a new script and made a big joke out of it. The usual, rich English are attacked by Dracula (Leslie Nielsen) and Dr. Van Helsing (Mel Brooks) is brought in to save the day.

Cirque du Freak The Vampire's Assistant - Official Trailer
Darren Shan is a regular teenage kid. He and his friend Steve find out about a Freak Show coming to town an work hard at trying to find tickets. They do, and together they go to "Cirque du Freak" where they see many strange acts including a werewolf and a bearded lady. Steve and Darren think that it is all a joke until a vampire, Larten Crepsley comes on with a very poisonous spider that he makes do tricks. When Steve sees this man he freaks out a bit but won't tell Darren why. After the show, Steve tells Darren to go home, and that he will follow later. Darren says yes but instead sneaks upstairs to see what Steve is up to. He sees Steve talking to Mr. Crepsley and overhears their conversation. Steve tells Mr. Crepsley that he knows that his real name is Vur Horston an is a Vampire and he tells Larten that he would like to join him and become an apprentice. Mr Crepsley says he must test Steve before he agrees, and when he does he reveals that Steve has "bad blood" and he will not transform him. Steve becomes angry but Darren leaves the theatre and doesn't see what happen next. Darren goes home and thinks about what Steve did but also cannot stop thinking about Mr. Crepsley's Spider. The next day he steals the spider with the hopes that he will be able to make it perform tricks too. Meanwhile, Steve is acting as if nothing happened. Darren manages to train the spider by using a flute to hypnotize it (what Larten did). Darren invites Steve over to show him the spider, but when Darren is making it perform tricks on Steve, Darren's sister comes in and breaks the noise, and thus causes the spider to bite Steve. Steve becomes very ill, and is rushed to the hospital where the doctors say that there is nothing they can do. Darren decides to see Mr. Crepsley about the possibility of an antidote. The vampire agrees to give him the only cure if Darren agrees to become his assistant, and half vampire. He does. Steve gets better but starts to realize that Darren is now part vampire and becomes angry, jealous and betrayed. Larten stages Darren's death and Darren is burried. Mr. Crepsley comes to dig up Darren and leave. He does and gives Darren a moment to say goodbye to his hometown. Then Steve shows up and tells Darren about all he knows. He says that Darren and Mr. Crepsley were planning the betrayal all along and that Steve doesn't really have bad blood, which Darren knows is not true. He tries to explain about the spider, but Steve cuts a small cross into the flesh of his left palm and swears on his blood that he will kill Darren and his mentor Mr. Crepsley. Darren shakes off the warning and leaves with Mr. Crepsley. It is rumored that the film will be based on the first three books, if this is true then we will see Darren's reluctance to accept his life as a vampire and meet the character Sam, on top on this he will have his first run in with the vampenezee a race of creatures who kill to eat unlike the vampires

Blade Prequels without Blade?
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, actor Stephen Dorff allegedly remarked that a prequel trilogy to the first "Blade" film is in the works. Dorff would reprise his role as the villainous Deacon Frost in a series of movies exploring the character's rise from underling to vampire overlord. Director Norrington weighed in on the time table himself, telling Comics2Film that filming would commence after his previously announced "The Crow" reinvention, which could be several years away.

Could a movie version of the vampire TV show Moonlight rise from the dead?
Posted July 1, 2009
The recent vampire craze born of Twilight and True Blood came a bit too late to save CBS' Moonlight: The vampire detective series was canceled after one season. But it won a Saturn Award for best series on DVD last week, and executive producer Harry Werksman offered fans some hope that a Moonlight movie could offer some closure."Well, we were setting up in the end of our first season that there was a coming war," Werksman said in an exclusive interview at the awards ceremony in Burbank, Calif. "There was the family from which Coraline came, and it was a royal bloodline of vampires that Mick had been brought into, very much unwanted on his part. I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season of the coming war."
The series chronicled the casework of detective Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), who could solve crimes committed by vampires. He was dealing with his own issues with an ex, Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned him without his consent, and a 400-year-old vamp (Jason Dohring), who butted in with underworld politics.
Of course, a movie would require the entire cast to return, and after the show's cancellation, they all booked new gigs. "You know, unfortunately, I think that everyone has kind of moved on," Werksman said.
One medium that does not need actors, however, is comic books. "No, they don't need actors," Werksman said. "We could always do comic books, graphic novels, that's true."
A movie is not out of the question, though, because lead actor O'Loughlin has told Werksman he's still interested. "I know I talked to Alex just a couple weeks ago, after Three Rivers got picked up, and I was congratulating him," he said. "He's like, 'When are we going to do the movie?' I said, 'I don't know, man. Any time you're ready.'"

Twilight Vampire: Edward Cullen
Edward Cullen (né Edward Anthony Masen) is a fictional character from Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. He features in the books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, as well as the yet unfinished Midnight Sun, and upcoming Twilight film.Twilight
Twilight sees Edward meet Bella Swan, a human girl whose thoughts he is unable to read, and whose blood smells overwhelmingly sweet to him.[2] He fights a growing attraction to her, but after saving her life on several occasions, succumbs and eventually falls in love with her. Edward admits to Bella that he is a vampire, and that although he retains the physical body of a seventeen-year-old, he was actually born on June 20, 1901. His adoptive father, Carlisle Cullen, transformed him into a vampire in 1918, to spare him death from the Spanish influenza epidemic in Chicago, Illinois. Carlisle instilled in him a sense of morality uncommon in most vampires, and central to his way of life is the refusal to consider humans as food.
Despite this, Edwards constantly warns Bella against being with him, perceiving her life to be at risk if she continues to associate with him. Bella's love and confidence in Edward's restraint is such that his warnings go unheeded, even after she becomes the target of another vampire, James. Unlike the Cullen family, who are "vegetarian" vampires (committed to only feeding on animals), James regularly feeds on humans and will not stop until he drinks Bella's blood. With his family's help, Edward is able to save Bella from James' predations, but the question of how to assure Bella's continued safety remains an open one.
New Moon
In New Moon, Edward's fears for Bella's safety intensify when she is almost attacked by his brother Jasper, when a paper cut draws blood. In an attempt to protect her, he convinces her that he no longer loves her, and moves away with his family, leaving Bella heartbroken. Edward finds it difficult to live without Bella, and becomes severely depressed at the prospect of an infinitely long and meaningless life. After he mistakenly learns from his sister Rosalie that Bella has committed suicide, Edward attempts to convince a group of Italian vampires, the Volturi, to kill him. Together with his sister Alice, Bella rushes to Italy and stops Edward before the Volturi can destroy him.
Edward explains why he left, and apologizes to Bella. She eventually forgives him entirely, and they continue with their relationship as though Edward had never left, with the exception that Bella has ties that cannot be broken with a werewolf named Jacob Black. Bella successfully seeks his family's support on turning her into a vampire. While Edward is furious at the prospect, he later agrees to change her himself if she agrees to marry him first.
Eclipse
In Eclipse, Bella agrees to marry Edward on the condition he will make love to her while she is still human. Edward eventually relents and agrees, on the stipulation it will only occur after they are married. The plot is driven by the machinations of the vampire Victoria, who, seeking revenge for the death of her mate James, is hunting Bella and creating new vampires to build an army. A grudging truce is made between the Cullens and the Native-American werewolf pack led by Sam Uley and Jacob Black, a friend of Bella's who was there for her when Edward broke her heart. However, the truce is endangered when Bella, realizes Jacob means more to her than she thought. Ultimately, Edward accepts that Bella cares for Jacob and successfully destroys Victoria, and Bella acknowledges that Edward is the most important person in her life. Edward tells Bella that they may attempt making love before they get married, as he realizes that she spends too much of her life trying to please other people. However, she refuses his offer and says that she will do everything the right way: marriage, making love, and then becoming a vampire.
Breaking Dawn
Breaking Dawn sees Edward and Bella marry. Bella becomes pregnant on their honeymoon, and the rapid growth of the half-human, half-vampire fetus swiftly impacts on Bella's health. Edward tries to coerce her into having an abortion in order to save her own life. However, Bella feels a bond with her unborn child and insists on giving birth. Edward comes to feel love for the baby as well, after he hears its thoughts and learns that the baby loves Bella in return. Bella nearly dies giving birth in an emergency c-section, but Edward successfully delivers his daughter and then injects Bella's heart with his venom, healing her wounds by turning her into an immortal vampire. During Bella's painful transformation, Jacob imprints on their baby daughter, Renesmee.
After a vampire named Irina mistakes Renesmee for an immortal vampire child - a creation forbidden in the vampire world - the Volturi arrive to destroy the Cullens. Edward stands with Bella and their allies to convince the Volturi that Renesmee is not an immortal child and poses no threat to their existence. Once the Volturi leave, Edward and Bella feel free to live their lives in peace with their daughter.
Edward is described in the book and by Bella as being charming, polite, determined, and very stubborn. He is very protective over Bella and puts her safety, humanity and welfare before anything else. He often over-analyzes situations and has a tendency to overreact, especially in situations where Bella's safety is at risk. He retains some outdated speech from his human life in the early 20th century, and can be very romantic. Edward sees himself as a monster, and after falling in love with Bella, he desperately wishes that he were human instead of a vampire.
Like all the vampires in the Twilight series, Edward is described by Bella as being impossibly beautiful. At various points in the series, she compares him to the mythical Greek god Adonis. His skin is "like marble"- very pale, ice cold, and sparkles in the sunlight. She describes his facial features as being perfect and angular - high cheekbones, strong jawline, a straight nose, and beautiful, full lips. His hair, which is always in casual disarray, retains the unusual bronze shade that he inherited in his human life from his biological mother. His eyes, once emerald green, are now described as a liquid, golden topaz. His fingers are described often as slender and he is said to have a dazzlingly crooked smile. His appearance changes if he goes long without feeding: his eyes darken, becoming almost black, and purple bruises appear beneath his eyes. Edward stands at 6'2", and has a slender but muscular body.
Edward, like all vampires in the Twilight series, possesses superhuman beauty, strength, speed, endurance, and agility. His scent and voice are enormously seductive, so much so that he occasionally sends Bella into a pliant daze entirely by accident. In Twilight, Edward explains that like other vampires, he does not need to breathe, though he chooses to do so out of habit and because it is helpful to smell his environment. He cannot digest regular food, and compares its attractiveness for him to the prospect of eating dirt for a regular person. As well, like other vampires, Edward is not able to sleep.
In addition to the traits he shares with his fellow vampires, Edward has certain abilities that are his alone. He is the fastest of the Cullens, able to outrun any of them. Perhaps as a result of a talent for empathy in his human life, Edward can also read the mind of anyone within a few miles of himself; Bella is the sole exception to this rule, which Meyer has stated is due to Bella having a very private mind. Edward also retains some of the traditional mindset and dated patterns of speech from his early-20th century human life.
Edward is musical, able to play the piano like a virtuoso. He enjoys a wide range of music, including classical, jazz, progressive metal, alternative rock, punk rock, but dislikes country. He prefers indie rock to mainstream, and appreciates rock and classical music equally. He mentions in Twilight that he likes music from the fifties better than the sixties, dislikes the seventies, and says the eighties were "bearable".
A hobby of Edward's is collecting cars. He owns a Volvo S60 R and an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish as a "special occasion" car. He also gave his sister Alice a Porsche 911 Turbo as a gift in Eclipse. He bought a motorcycle to ride alongside Bella, but gave it to Jasper after he realized that riding motorcycles was a hobby she enjoyed sharing with Jacob.

Classic Movie: Dracula (1931)
Dracula (1931) Trailer
Dracula (1931) For More Info On Dracula, please read: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2008/03/dracula-1931.html In 1927 a theatrical adaptation of Dracula written by Hamilton Deane and John L., Balderston became a huge hit on Broadway. This play would star the Hungarian born actor Bela Lugosi who didnt speak a word of English. Lugosi learned all his lines phonetically, which produced the famous speech pattern that Dracula (and most vampires) would become associated with. Bela Lugosi (Bela Ferenc Dezso Blasco) came to America in the 1920s to pursue an acting career. Even though the actor had starred in several small roles prior, he would always be remembered for portraying Dracula, both on stage and in numerous films. After Dracula became a huge hit the actor was offered the part of The Monster in Frankenstein, which he turned down. Boris Karloff would become famous for the part, and Lugosis short term as the King of Horror would end as quickly as it started. Lugosi would go on to play Dracula and other various vampires throughout his career. The actor managed to beat a drug addiction, but ended his career in low budget features such as the infamous Plan 9 From Outer Space which would be his last film. He passed away while it was still in production. Despite all of his stage and film roles the actor died in poverty. Carl Laemmle Jr. had a vision for a big screen adaptation of Dracula for Universal that would have been in the same league as The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Phantom of the Opera. Laemmle was also very insistent that Lon Chaney, play the vampire in his picture and set out to lure him away from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Unfortunately Lon Cheney passed away from throat cancer before production was set to begin.

Stars: Anna Paquin, Stephen MoyerVampires have come out of the "coffin" and into the light -- or at least as close to the light as they dare to go -- thanks to the synthetic beverage Tru Blood, which alleviates their need for the real thing. Many people still fear them, but Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), a waitress at a rowdy rural Louisiana roadhouse, is fascinated by them. But then, she has a secret of her own -- she reads minds. When Bill Compton (Moyer), a 173-year-old vampire, enters the bar, he and Sookie are immediately drawn to each other. But where vampires go, violence follows, so the relationship ought to have plenty of complications beyond the huge age difference. The series features an entertaining blend of sex, humor and unsavory characters, but the main reasons to watch are the knockout performance by Paquin and the broad vision of writer/producer Alan Ball, creator of HBO's acclaimed "Six Feet Under." Ball says of the new series, "After five years of peering into the abyss and contemplating life in the presence of mortality, I felt like, 'Let's do something else.'"
The series is based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

Early Vampire Film: Nosferatu
''''' (translated as Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror; also known as Nosferatu: A Symphony of Terror or simply Nosferatu''') is a German Expressionist vampire horror film, directed by F. W. Murnau, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. The film, shot in 1921 and released in 1922, was in essence an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stokers Dracula, with names and other details changed because the studio could not obtain the rights to the novel (for instance, "vampire" became "Nosferatu" and "Count Dracula" became "Count Orlok". At least one English language print features title cards with the actual names from Stoker's novel including "Count Dracula").

A divorced mother, Lucy Emerson (Dianne Wiest), and her two teenage sons Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) move from Phoenix to live with Lucy's father in the small California town of Santa Carla (based loosely on the city of Santa Cruz, California, the film's primary filming location). Santa Carla is plagued by problems such as a motorcycle gang and unexplained disappearances.Michael, Lucy's oldest son, is eventually drawn into the motorcycle gang via his attraction to Star (Jami Gertz, the only girl in the gang), and because of a rivalry with their leader, David (Kiefer Sutherland). After a sort of informal initiation ceremony with the gang involving dangerous activities such as motorcycle racing through the fog towards the top of a cliff, and hanging underneath a train bridge while a train passes, Michael drinks blood in the guise of wine after being fooled into thinking that Chinese food containers of rice and noodles were actually maggots and worms. Soon afterwards, he starts showing symptoms of vampirism: he sleeps all day, he becomes sensitive to sunlight, and his reflection is transparent. Michael spends his nights with the motorcycle gang until they reveal that they are indeed vampires when they murder a group of teenagers at a bonfire party. David explains to Michael that he must feed in order to survive, but Michael refuses to kill and leaves the gang.
With the help of Star, Laddie (Chance Michael Corbitt), and his brother Sam, who has joined up with two relatively inept vampire hunters Edgar (Corey Feldman) and Alan Frog (Jamison Newlander), Michael sets out to shake his curse by finding and killing the head vampire. This proves more difficult than it seems, as it is not evident who the leader is. Sam and the Frog Brothers try to prove that Lucy's boyfriend Max (Edward Herrmann) is the leader of the vampire gang, but their tests fail. Towards the end of the movie, it turns out Max is the leader. Their vampire tests didn't work because Michael had invited Max into the house ("Don't ever invite a vampire into your house, you silly boy," Max said to Sam at the end of the movie. "It renders you powerless.")
The boys battle the vampires, killing all of them--so they think. David (Kiefer Sutherland) does not die like the other vampires, who had violent deaths. Rather David's death was rather 'peaceful' and involved bright white light, but also the piercing of his heart on animal antlers. This was explained by the Frog Brothers saying that no two vampires die the same. In an earlier attack on the vampires cave home Edgar staked Marko, Nanook, Sam's dog, knocks Paul into a bathtub full of holy water, Sam shoots Dwayne in the heart with an arrow and Michael impales David on some deer antlers in the grandfather's taxidermy workshop. Max then reveals himself as the head vampire. As Max is about to bite into Lucy's neck, Grandpa drives his jeep through the wall of the house and sends a fence post through Max's heart. Grandpa casually gets one of his root beers from the refrigerator and remarks, "One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach... all the damn vampires," indicating he has known much more about the paranormal activities in the area than anyone suspected.

The Lost Boys Trailer
Lestat de Lioncourt: Vampire. Rock Star. God.
Every Halloween TV stations seem to pick one vampire movie to play to death. This year's pick is Queen of the Damned. I have seen it on the schedule five times this week so I finally bit the bullet and watched it. I must say that it could have been much worse.Stuart Townsend was a much better choice for Lestat than Tom Cruise. Townsend obviously understood the character. I remember seeing an interview with Cruise in which he stated that Lestat was not evil. Clueless without a license.
True, Lestat is not completely evil that would get very boring. You can't get a full read on the character from either of the two movies. Damned was a condensation of two books (Interview With A Vampire and Queen of the Damned). It is hard to compress almost a thousand pages of writing into 101 minutes of film. The movie plays Lestat as a lonely man longing for a connection to the life he sees all around him. He is tired of hiding in the shadows. He wants to walk among mortals without fear.
The main conceit of the movie is that a vampire could become a rock star and tell the world that he is a vampire and no one mortal would care. Hurray for the 21st Century! Townsend knows how to play a rock god. He comes off as the Jim Morrison of the undead. Watching him move on stage I was reminded of a something I once heard from Bono: "You put on the leather pants and the pants start telling you what to do." Amen.
Check out the Vampire Chronicles.

New Movie: 30 Days of Night
Based on a comic book series, 30 Days of Night takes place in a secluded Alaskan town. When the town plunges into its yearly month of 24-hour darkness, a gang of vampires moves in for a feast. The town Sheriff and his Deputy (who also happens to be his wife) try to save the town.I'll admit that I don't follow comics at all. I'd never heard of this series before seeing a commercial for it on TV. I don't know why, but vampire comics don't turn me on. I don't have high expectations for this movie. The vampires do not even have names. IMDb lists them as Vampires 1 to 11.
I'm still trying to decide if I should go see this in the theatre or wait for it to come out on video. If you go see it let me know what you think.

Henry Fitzroy: Bastard Son of Henry VIII
I've started watching a TV show called Blood Ties. I am really happy to see the series being made. It's based some of my favorite vampire books. The Blood Books were written by Canadian author Tanya Huff. I've only seen three episodes so far and I'm not sure if they were really good or if I just want them to be good because I love the books so much.Tanya Huff is a great writer. I read anything by her. The funniest line I've ever read in a vampire book was said by Henry Fitzroy. I'm too lazy to look for the exact quote but it goes something like this: "A vampire waiting for a demon gets cruised in a graveyard. I love this century!" Henry is a very funny vampire. His funniest line in the series so far: "I'm the epitome of a long term commitment."
The books and the TV series revolve around Henry Fitzroy who began his life as Henry, Duke of Richmond the bastard son of Henry VIII. Today he writes "bodice rippers" (in the books) or graphic novels (in the series). In his spare time, he solves supernatural mysteries with his partner Vicki Nelson. Vicki is an ex-police detective who had to leave the force because of eye problems. She has no night vision. She does the detective work during the day and Henry fights the supernatural bad guys at night.
To make things interesting Vicki has an ex-partner/sort of ex-lover named Mike Celluci. The TV series is making this triangle the central relationship. They're really playing up Mike and Henry's jealousy towards each other. Of course this means that Vicki gets very frustrated. The two men in her life hate each other while she's attracted to both of them. Kyle Schmid is very easy to look at. At first, I thought he was too exotic looking to play Henry but I'll admit he's grown on me. He can bite me anytime.
Check out the books featuring Henry Fitzroy.

Mick St. John: New Vampire In Town
Moonlight (CBS): Premiere September 28, 2007
I always look forward to new vampire television. I'm still mourning the end of Buffy and Angel. Any new vampire has some pretty big shoes to fill.I really like vampires so I'm willing to give vampire shows more chances than I would give regular TV. I can suspend my disbelief with the best of them. I just have certain expectations. Sorry To say Moonlight didn't do it for me. Not that it was really bad. I just found it kind of blah.
So here's the premise: Mick St. John is a private investigator in Los Angeles. He's also a 90 year old vampire. According to him, "being a vampire sucks" and "garlic tastes good on pizza." He's able to function during the day as long as he doesn't spend too much time in the sun.
Here's some vampire trivia for ya: The idea that vampires couldn't function during the day was created by F.W. Murnau in his film Nosferatu. His film was very low budget and he needed a special effect to end the film. Having the vampire disappear in the sunlight was the cheapest thing he could do. Many people slagged Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula for having Gary Oldman walking around during the day. Coppola was being true to Bram Stoker's vision.
Anyway, back to Mick.
The first episode revolves around a "vampire" murder. Mick finds a suspect very early but it turns out to be the wrong one. I figured out who did it well before the halfway point.
That's my biggest criticism. The story was way too simple. I'm used to watching CSI and L&O. A little bit of complexity keeps things interesting.
I will admit that I went into the show with a grudge. The premise of the show sounds too much like a show I really liked: Forever Knight. There are a few differences:
- The series takes place in Los Angeles instead of Toronto (Toronto is way cooler).
- Mick is only 90 years old whereas Nick was 800.
- Mick is a private eye. Nick was a homicide cop (who only worked the night shift).
- In another co-inky-dink, in the original TV movie, Nick was played by Aussie pop star Rick Springfield and Mick is being played by Alex O'Laughlin who is the son of Aussie rocker Bonn Scott (AC/DC).
I expect future episodes of Moonlight to be filled with "vampire angst." Hopefully there will also be interesting plotlines to keep it from getting boring.
