The Great Race Place
Of the three big tracks in Southern California, Santa Anita's geography sets it apart from Del Mar and Hollywood Park. Its elevation is somewhat higher - 475 feet, compared to sea level for Del Mar and 110 feet for Hollywood Park. That elevation differential combined with the mountainous background makes Santa Anita more susceptible to smog. Beware of projecting good performances at the other tracks to performance here. The "horses-for-courses" angle plays big here.
