Wondering whether to rent or buy a Santa Claus costume?
A few years ago my daughter was turning 1 and I wanted to carry on family tradition of dressing up as Santa. My grandfather had started the tradition, and all I needed was a Santa Suit, sound easy? Not really. I checked the local yellow pages and came up empty. I found a theater rental company online but they wanted over $2,000 and a security deposit for an authentic Santa replica suit. I really just wanted a nice suit that would last several years for the family. The suit is only used once a year, and I really didn't need an exact replica of a movie prop. You can find several grades of Santa Suits, from economy to mall quality. I would consider the "mall quality" a higher grade and able to stand up to thousands of children. Why spend several hundred or thousand dollars to rent, when you can buy a quality Santa Suit online. My purchase 3 years ago was from ebay, and it has held up year after year. I keep it sealed in a plastic storage carrier, and this has ensured that it remains fresh and clean in the garage.
Several advantages to buying over renting:
1. No deposit or cleaning fees
2. You can lend it out to friends.
3. You could rent it out and earn some money.
4. Suit will last for many years.
5. You will save hundreds or thousands on rental fees over the years.
