IMPROVING SELF-ESTEEM

Nathaniel Branden is my favorite author.  He is a non-theist and a libertarian.  His teacher was Ayn Rand, also a non-theist and libertarian.  Branden has been called "The Father of Self-Esteem."  He has written many books on self-esteem.  He endorses the idea that self-esteem can be improved through a set of six pillars, or six practices.  At the back of most of his books are sentence completions which the reader can do daily lasting from a few weeks to about half a year.  The sentence completions took me five to ten minutes a day and they were the framework in changing my outlook upon myself.

The six practices of self-esteem are: living consciously, self-acceptance, self-responsibility, self-assertiveness, living purposefully, and self-integrity.  Some essays by Nathaniel Branden can be found at his site http://www.nathanielbranden.com/ .

Assertiveness helps us navigate with confidence through our world, teaching us how to resolve conflict without resorting to aggression or panic.
