Sarah Palin - the former Governor of Alaska
Sarah Palin is not only young and beautiful, but many Americans are now hailing her as "The Hope of America". She represents small town values, personal ethics, and individualism.
Will she run for president in 2012? Do you think she should?
I started this poll page during the 2008 Presidential election when she was running for Vice President. I did this because my boyfriend asked me to make this lens. I am not a Republican and do not even like politics.
During the campaign I maintained the polls and was shocked at the negative comments that poured in to insult Mrs. Palin. I am shocked that so many Americans can be so terribly insulting to someone who tries to run for public office. Because she is a woman, the insults toward her were far more insidious than any I've seen aimed at male candidates.
Does anyone have a conscience about the hateful things that were said about this woman? I wonder what has become of America and the ethics of the people who live here.

Who is Sarah Palin?
Sarah Palin is a mother of five who entered politics in 1992 as a city council member for the small town of Wasilla, Alaska. She served two terms, then turned her sight to the office of Mayor, criticizing wasteful spending and high taxes. She was elected to be Wasilla Mayor twice. She was elected President of the Alaska Conference of Mayors.
Next she ran for Alaskan Lieutenant Governor but was defeated. She served as Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, from 2003 to 2004 but resigned due to lack of ethics of fellow Republicans.
Running on a platform of "cleaning up government," she was elected Governor of Alaska in 2006 at the age of 42. In 2007 she had an approval rating above 90%.
She fired politicians she found unethical and supported rebates of state government budget surplus monies to Alaskan citizens at the rate of $100 per month per person.
She resigned from the Governor's job on July 31, 2009, and now communicates with her supporters on Facebook and on her new website, Sarah PAC.

I am an independent who hates govt intervention, prefer programs to be run by individual state with individuals being able to choose their future endeavors. I believe in term limits for all politicians (4 terms for the house and 2 for Senators 2 for governors. Similar terms for state legislators. Greatly increased penalties for medicare fraud and white collar crime with reasonable limits for personal injuries. I resent unethical practices of all legislators, buying votes, pork and lobbyists in govt. Sarah Palin is a refreshing, articulate, individual whio looks you in the eye and tells you her feelings. She is a major league American heroe and I have no love for women like Martha Stewart, Nancy Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Barbara Boxer. Hilary Clinton is a distant 2nd to Palin, but very good.

I completely can relate to her...I am a high school student who's ALWAYS been involved in school politics. You see, I am new to this town I live in and most importantly, new to THIS COUNTRY! In short, like sarah, I came from a place that people barely knew about. SO i ran for class president after a year of attending my new school system. It was ridiculous! Insults are shot at me...it felt like a thousand arrows in my sides. It SUCKED! So I ended up losing. And the winner, JUST LIKE BARRY-O, disappoints our class. And now, people are regretting that they decided NOT to elect me PLUS terrorize me socially.
Sarah, go on with your fight.

Look at the people she has tried to appoint to run the government.
Thank goodness for our democracy that out-voted her selections. Is she popular based on her looks? Please tell me no - our cuture cannot be that sick! . If Sarah Palin is in the mix for President the next election she has my vote! By the way, it is sickening to see all of the liberal hatred and slander. As a veteran of over 20 years in the US Air Force I valued the motto God, Country, Family. Secondly, I feel that all should serve in the military then there would be a true appreciation for liberty, it's cost, and self sacrifice. Only then would you truly understand why the military predominately votes conservative in Presidential elections.

"CommonSense" has it backswards. Sarah Palin represents everything that is RIGHT with American culture. Unlike the hateful liberals who attack her, Gov. Palin refuses to respond in kind. Unlike those who have attacked her children, she has never attacked the children of others. To the contrary, she has stood firmly for the rights of the unborn and the disabled. She gives her time and her support to many causes which advocate for children.
She is the embodiment of not our darkest characteristics, but our noblest ones. She has a servant's heart and a giving and forgiving Christian spirit.
She is not ignorant. She understands that the massive debt the federal government is running up will ultimately fall on the shoulders of our children and grandchildren. She has wisely invested Alaska's past oil revenues so that during these hard economic times, her state is able to draw from a "rain day fund" rather than borrow money from the Chinese. She understands the risk our nation is in from rogue regimes who are developing missile and nuclear technology and has repeatedly warned about those potential threats while arguing for expanding our missile defense. She has better knowledge of energy issues than any politician in Washington, DC. and knows that this nation can ill afford to be dependent for oil on foreign nations who don't like America.
She is not hateful. Were she hateful, she would be calling people ignorant and saying that they embody our darkest characteristics. Were she hateful, she would call other people a joke. Only hateful people are so unkind toward others.
Sarah Palin is a not a far right conservative. Though she supports traditional marriage, she vetoed a bill that would have banned benefits for same-sex partners of state employees. She toughened Alaska's ethics rules and raised production taxes on oil and gas companies, while approving tax breaks for exploration. Anyone who reads her actual RECORD will learn that she has done realtively little to advance culturally conservative causes in her state. She has submitted a proposal to make half of Alaska's electricity use come from renewable sources by 2025. Those are not the actions of a far-right wing zealot.
The Democrats fear this charismatic woman so much that they comb the web to post baseless accusations such as the ones made by "CommonSense" here.

I will say she had some problems in the Couric interview but give her a few years to get a better grasp of foreign affairs and to develop her own platform, rather than trying to fit her platform into that of McCain's. It must have been difficult for her to swallow some of his policies (bailouts) and still appear to support him 100%. I think she did an exemplary job considering she only had two weeks to prepare for rough and tumble politics and the unfriendly media. Every other politician in the race had years to prepare. I hate labels. Particularly political ones. I am an individual and independent thinker. Politically, I favor the left - particularly on issues such as the environment and services that benefit society rather than multi-national corporations. To me, the majority on the right who call themselves "conservative" are like the fox calling itself a chicken. "Conservative", in my book, means conservative, and that is not what I see in these folks.
That said, as much as I disagree with her in many ways, I am a real fan of Sarah Palin. I would never vote for her, but that is beside the point.
It is a rare individual who can stand up to such world-wide attention and scrutiny and maintain their simplistic mannerisms and speech. Sarah Palin has done that - maintained her sense of self and gotten her message across. She has stood up against Joe Biden - a much more experienced politician - and held her own. She has stepped into this position with grace, confidence and a naturalness that few politicians possess. I believe the reason she can pull that off is because she doesn't have to think about it. Sarah Palin is Sarah Palin.

I personally believe Sarah Palin when she says she will make change but in 4 years as V we will know more and if she is good for her word then I say let her be pres and make real change!! I am voting for Sarah Palin and her promise of change, I know the others are just trying to blow smoke up our butt's. BO is so far left that we will wake up in 2012 and the government will own and run every major service sector and they will still be raising taxes because they cant run a business, FM and FB should show that!! Wake up America there is only one person, not one ticket that even offers a slight chance of real change!! If Sarah Palin isn't good for her word then we send her packing and keep sending politicians packing until we find someone that wants to make real change for the American people!! Fix the tax code to a fair system for all, get out of businesses way to create jobs no one ever got a job from a poor person, Put free market back to work in health care, by getting rid of the health insurance companies, do you know Veterinary medicine uses the same machines the same meds as human doctors and Vets do it for 2% of what the human doctors charge!! The cause of most of this disfuntion is the lack of true christian principals that focuses on love of others more than self. Our founding fathers overwhelmingly followed these principals and developed one of the most successfull systems of government ever established in the world. Our worst imperfections developed, and continue to do so when our leaders forgot these principals. I believe she will make choices accordingly that strenghten our families and as a result strengthens our nation. A strong nation is more dependent on this than the almighty dollar.

I am not from here originally but I stand in the background and watch and I can tell you, it is embarrassing to think that some of the people are willing to be blinded to the lack of intellengence in this WOMAN. Intellegence as in: Smartness, humbleness, truthfulness, patience, slow-to-speakness, quick-to-careness, humility, unflattery. She couldn't a beat a fly to sit with me if she tried. A fly would better know the importance of silence where necessary. And notice I capitalize the word 'woman' above. This is because I notice in a the first section I read above I saw this: "Because she is a woman, the insults toward her were far more insidious than any I've seen aimed at male candidates".
I betcha most of the insults came from WOMEN. But I say to you, if she goes out there trying to insult the people's intellegence, and especially women as she has done and is continuing to do by: a) not answer important questions and snobbing the media's Women when they ask her legitimate questions, forgetting that the rest of the world's women are watching; b)displaying her best skills on the world stage to be attacking and accusing rather than dealing with the people's (women's)important business and ignoring pety cat fights for this would show substance in her; c)If she had not brought her kids on the world stage to use them the way she did, but leave them at home with responsible guardians that would have gone down as sensible with other women, (at least with me)instead of having the very young four months old hanging on her side sometimes amidst her busy from here to there schedule. YOUNG BABIES NEED TO BE IN THEIR WARM BEDS, hugged, kissed, feed, massaged, read to, sing to, bond with, all the works. Not to be disoriented and confused through their transitional period from uterus to the open world, they need time to adjust, please, please. (Talk about parenting)
d) SHE LISTENS TO NO ONE haa aa haa aa, that's quite a joke. If she would listen she would have heard a lone voice with some kind of 'words of wisdom' coming through amidst the noises of the noisy fools. haa haa.
It takes more than only being 'Another woman' for women to want you to represent them. WOMEN are intellegent beings: Their sence of smell is greater than that of MEN'S - think on these things. Also if you haven't thought of it yet, then: Women's instinct are great and highly active, they don't have to talk to you to know a lot about you. GET THAT ONE DOWN YOUR DIGESTIVE TRACK. OK! LOVE YOU.
P.S.
Sad to say but hey! 2013 chance for her does not exist. Forget it. The writing is on the wall

Utah Mom says:
I was personally amazed when Palin first came out with her speech. I thought, ?Wow, this woman really has it together?. After the initial affair with the buzz created, I began thinking a little more rational and then watched events unfold.
It was soon clear that it is almost impossible to really juggle an enormous work responsibility with kids. Was I a working mom? YES. Fortunately I could work hours that didn't have much conflict with being there. As I did want to teach my kids about morality as preteens and teens, I knew that teaching, role playing and talking about the issues was only one step. The next step was to be there.
I am told that studies tell us that most teenage pregnancies occur between the hours of 4pm and 6pm. I don't need studies to tell me the thinking behind hind this. Whether there is actually a study out there that actually states this, I don't really know. But, it doesn't take rocket science to understand that opportunity exists in a home after school and before parents come through the door from work.
I believe kids want to come in the door and yell, ?mom?. And have someone within the walls yell, ?I'm here?. In the best of worlds, I believe this is an ideal time to catch up on your kids day. Usually kids are a little weary from school and need a snack to rejuvenate them before they kick into homework gear, other activities or just good home time. and what better time to really find out what is going on with them, with school, with peers, with teachers. Sometimes, well you don't get a second chance to find out the important things.
Was I 100% there everyday? No I wasn't. There were occasions. But they were unpredictable. I'm grateful that because the majority of the time I was there, good habits were created for after school activities. Did I leave them vulnerable during those infrequent absences? Of course I did. But, inside I feel like overall the decision to be around was a good one. My kids are all grown and out of the house. Now my career has a little more priority. But, it takes a back seat to still being a parent to my 35 year old twins , 31 year old daughter and my two year old grand daughter.
The pleasures of family. Immeasurable.
Back to the initial statement. So many heartbreaking things have happened in the Palin family. A lot of residual hurt exists. Life could have been different with different choices.
It puzzles me how the diehard Christians would support this type of role model. It seems sort of double standardish. Do you get my drift?

And why did she and McCain choose NOT to support the proposed program for people with disabilities to have a choice between a home setting or an institution? She is full of it.

Hi Linda, there are some things you should know about Sarah Palin. I don't want to insult you or anything of the sort. But we must be informed. This is the deal, Sarah Palin is a Dominionist. She believes that the kingdom of Christ must be expanded through brute physical force. Dominionists are generally marginalized but in this case the neocons want her to represent them. The neocons don't care about God, but they want to extend American empire by force so they believe Sarah fits in with them. Bill Kristol and Karl Rove are two neocons who called for a 9/11 type event prior to 9/11. They also were instrumental in the lies that lead up to Iraq. When Sarah Palin says that killing in Iraq is holy, it is consistent both with the Dominionist position and the neoconservative position. Pat Buchanan fears the neocons and calls them the War Party. He is a true conservative. I hope you realize that Palin is not just anothe pretty face, but wants endless war and wants to provoke Russia, which is a very dangerous thing to do.

She does not strike me as very intelligent. She may be fun to hang out with or a good mother but that doesn't earn her the vice-presidency. Women have come a long way and for her to go on national tv unprepared is an insult to us all. Moreover, I feel she attempts to dumb things down in an effort to seem more "common" which is insulting since a good portion of the country has higher education than she.

2)Sure- she has a degree- in Journalism...with a GPA that some people would have considered a fail....it would be Bush with lipstick!
3) Being mayor and governer of a state that has less people total in it than some medium sized towns in the lower 48 isn't nearly enough IMO to qualify as experienced, not to mention the reputation she has already acquired for ethics violation- yeah- bring more of that in to the White House- just what America needs.

She is an extremly weak candidate. I cringe when she speaks. She claims to be just regular folk. But she can't put together one coherant, on topic answer. Her interview with Katie Couric on CBS was a disaster. She was unable to name one magazine or newspapter that she reads on a regualr basis. I just read that her staff does not allow her to see the news because they don't want her to get depressed. A Vice-President has a duty and a responsibility to be informed about what is happening. The woman lacks the ability to turn on a television by herself or pick up a paper? Palin's lack of education, life experieces that are relevant (being a hockey mom does not qualify you for VP just like being a hockey dad is not a qualification), work experience, knowledge of American history, government and geography and her racist, negative viewpoints make her unqualified to represent the United States. We need need strong, positive leaders at this time. Sarah Palin is neither.

It's disgusting that she is using her son(s) as media props. The fact that she walks around carrying her youngest child like a sack of potatos for any and every possible photo-op is deplorable.
I'm ashamed of her tactics and disagree for everything she stands for. Putting her in the Executive Branch of our government would set back women's rights by at least 100 years. I haven't seen a woman in politics in a long time that was so against her own gender. Anyone who would require rape victims to be charged and required to pay for their own rape kits should not be allowed to run a state let alone an entire country. I feel ill at the thought that John McCain and Palin could potentially be elected in November!!!!! I wouldn't vote for them if they were the last people on earth!!!!

Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down
Amazon Price: $14.36 (as of 11/27/2009)![]()
Product Description
In 2006, a Angel-faced but tough 42-year-old former small-town mayor named Sarah Palin became a long-shot candidate for Alaska governor demanding a higher ethnical standard in state government. The timing of her reform message and a widening scandal produced a tornado that reshaped the political landscape. Surprising everyone, Palin thumped by wide margins both a sitting governor in the Republican primary election and a former governor in the general election to become Alaskas first female chief executive and its youngest ever.
Sarah Palin's Statement to Alaskans
...posted on her official governor's website on August 29, 2008
"It is the honor of my life to represent you as your Governor, and over the next two months I will continue to do so. As the mother of five, I know how to multi-task, and I will continue to promote the path of reform that we set out on together in the state of Alaska."
"It is a great privilege to be John McCain's running mate and to be considered by the American people for the Vice Presidency. This honor is a testament to the reforms and progress we have made together in Alaska. Now is the time to take that spirit of reform to Washington."

Thanks for visiting my Squidoo lens about Sarah Palin...
...hosting this poll has been quite an experience!
September 30, 2008 - I've been surprised at the popularity of this opinion poll and even a month after starting it - the poll gets about 1000 visitors weekly. I'm also amazed at the comments - both for and against.
You probably think I'm a Republican. Well... I'm not. I'm registered as a Libertarian because I don't believe either of the main parties represents a real chance at change. It is my sad realization that most voters won't consider voting for a third party, so I expect business as usual in Washington DC during the next four years, no matter which of the two main-party candidates wins.
I'm here to tell you, friends, that there's more to politics than just Republicans or Democrats!
None-the-less, I've been fascinated by Sarah Palin's sudden rise to national notoriety, the extreme opinions leveled against her, and her resilient bravery and fortitude in the face of opposition.
Your comments are welcome
Please let me know what you think of politics today...

- Sarah Palin proved in her one VP candidate debate that she is a political lightweight and she belongs no where near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue now or ever. She is the most divisive politician I have ever seen. She's not very thoughtful and doesn't have the stamina to even finish a term out as governor. If she can't do that in Alaska why would we expect more of her as a President. That was not the only job she quit you know. You betcha! I don't like her, I don't like the hatred she stirred up during the '08 election she is a fear monger and no one that needs to be in authority. She's a mindless religious zealot not the kind of person I want to see with power in this country. She has the ability to be like Hitler with her mindless followers. She did even know what a VP does. How are people stupid enough to support a person who didn't even know the duties of the job she was seeking.

- Democrats and Republicans have truly lost their way. The thirst for power is too pervasive in our ruling authorities. If we were to study the founding fathers writings today, we would be ashamed of how mindless the electorate has become. But I do think we can recover. Sarah Palin may not be the perfect politician or public servant. But she had a more true American core than any of the other three candidates. Citizenship, loving your neighbor, would require educating oneself on the candidates. Too many citizens voted on a 'feeling'.
You've done a great job on your lens.

- I agree with you about her courage and fortitude. But she was found guilty of violating the State Ethics Act when she fired Public Safety Commissioner Monegan for refusing to fire an ex-brother-in-law. Palin has shown that she is absolutely ruthless against those who oppose her. Her public records show that she has not made the Alaskan government less corrupt but abuses her position of power for personal reasons and vendettas.

- Hi, libertarians cannot support Dominionists (Palin) or neocons (Kristol,Rove,Bush,Cheney). Jesse Ventura believes that Bush allowed 9/11, and the neocons in the form of PNAC called for a Pearl Harbor type event one year prior to 9/11. It is documented and common knowledge. Therefore, Palin fits in with very dangerous people and she is not as she appears.

- Those of you support Sara Palin-DO a little research! She is NOT truthful, she is NOT competent, and although ignorance is not a crime, I donn't consider it a virtue for someone in office. I used to admire McCain-but in the interests of winning he has sacrificed his integrity and he sank to a new low by allowing her on the ticket. He is practicing the same Dirty Politics that he has always denounced. And why (since one of their current sound bites is how Obama voted against funding the troops-not true)does the war hero have such a dismal record on veterans issues-or funding gor GI benefits. See VetVoice- or any number of (conservative veterans) sites to see just how he has NOT taken care of them-in direct conflict with his empassioned statement during the first debate. And Palin's statements about Obama's terrorist associations are ludicrous and have already been discredited-but she continues to spout this false hate rhetoric-facts are out there for anyone on the net.

- I am a lifetime republican but I cannot vote for this ticket. Katie Couric's interview of Sarah Palin confirmed my opinion of her. She is grossly incompetent to hold the office of VP. I am reluctantly voting for Barack Obama because I do not trust John McCain's shoot from the hip style decision making, and because I cannot run the risk that Sarah Palin could end up being the president of the United States. To use John McCain's words, "that would be dangerous." Any argument John McCain might use regard Barack Obama's lack of experience could be applied to Sarah Palin ten times over.
I am also extremely concerned about omissions from John McCain's health record regarding his skin cancer. He's 72 and he is NOT healthy. This makes my evaluation of his running mate to be of paramount importance.

- I don't see why Americans can trust thier life, their money or their families in the hands of Sarah Palin if she become President of the US. Can you see how McCain is playing you all for a fool? I can detect a chauvanist from a mile away...and McCain embodies this character about himself that says that women are weak and will fall for anything...why else would he place a woman like Palin as his running mate? This woman has less experience than my shoes going into office. She is horrible at interviews and she is horrible with her speeches...all she knows how to do well is put ppl down and make fun of them....but when ppl make fun of her it is all of a sudden called sexist...if she cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen! She is fair game if she wants to run for the highest position in America. She better suck it up!!

- I feel that Sara will make a great President. She is Clear on the one issue that really counts. In a crisis she can turn to her faith and have the witchcraft that has ruled the white house for eight years will be exorsised and the true will of Jesus will rule the day and we will all be swept up to heaven and all of those who don't will burn in Hell with the boogie man for all eternity as the Loving GOD wants for his children. The economic crisis, the war against the witches in te world, will all just evaporate when Sara leads us into the light of Jesus. I do wonder why Jesus would send us another idiot to lead us, but the Lord works in misterious ways. We must accept that and always vote Republican, because they have always told the truth and got us to where we are today. You know, on the verge of that wonders rapture that the Loving has always known would happen. He only told the true believers though because he wants us to come to him without knowing the whole story, just like the GOP

- When considering McCains age and the fact he has to give every speech off note cards I am not impressed with him and to think we would get Palin if something happens to McCain is frightening. She may have been a good mayor in a small town and a good Governor for the State of Alaska but that doesn't translate into being ready for the office of President.

- She is a joke candidate. Internal polling has convinced the Republicans they don't stand a chance, so they are throwing a bone to the white trash, creationist wacho vote to keep them onside for next time.

- I see that the left has continued its "do as we say, not as we do" attitude toward women and America. To even consider the no-resume' Barak H. Obama for president in one breath and then attack Governor Palin as being "inexperienced" in the next breath is so patently biased it caused even those left-wing hoodlums at MSNBC to fall over. But the left has fallen for the trap and now all the talk is about comparing the Republican no. 2 with the Democratic no. 1 spot. I think running against second place for Obama is a problem for him. What of his Islamic background--any relatives we should know about?
Also, no talk about Biden's plagiarism just a couple of years ago either?
This nonsense about McCain continuing the Bush policies is just that--non-sense. Once McCain gets into the Whitehouse he will piss us all off all on his own.
I guess the left is happy that our taxes are now being stolen to pay for buy-outs of all these poorly run corporations. Just like welfare. BG

- No, not another uneducated politician for president. Haven't we learned after Bush? She is not the woman I want to see even close to the presidential chair, let alone right next to it. She does not represent my dream of America at all. Her views on the subject of education are disturbing to say the least. Creationism being taught in schools? No thank you. I'm actually somewhat religous and I still don't agree with this. Her view that the war in Iraq is some divine crusade comissioned by god is also alarming. Religous extremism caused the mesh in the Middle East, we don't need it to use that philosophy to stop it. Think of how the rest of the world would view her. I want the world to be impressed, not look down on us like they do with Bush. Lastly, I don't think that it wise for her to be campaigning while her baby has down syndrome and her daughter is pregnant. She has enough problems at home without causing some at international level. I question McCain's judgment.
