I don't think many of experienced SAS programmers are conformist. every time you look at your own code you can find a way of improving it as you find patterns of the data flow.

I'm definitely a Maverick SAS Programmer. I originally got into SAS by trying out the software after I'd just been told to install it. I still like trying as many of the new features that appear as soon as I can, and I'll admit to getting very bored when doing similar tasks over and over again.
