Preparing for the Test
Practice makes perfect
It goes without saying that, if you're serious about your score, you're going to want to put in some hours studying. For the SAT I, you're going to be presented with the critical reading section, mathematics, and writing. There are effective strategies to deal with each.
In the critical reading, you must read three passages, each timed. Your goal is to get a good idea of what's going on in each passage and answer questions. You don't have to know what was said word for word, so it's a good idea to get a gist of the passage, read the questions, and come back to find the correct answers.
In the Math section, you're again presented with three subsections, each timed. Here you'll be tested on questions from algebra I & II, geometry, statistics in graphical and tabular data. it's important to remember that the questions are equally weighted and increase in difficulty as you progress. Really working with SAT prep worksheets for this section is a must, as you're going to want to be sharp when using the formulas.
The writing section requires you to write an essay and answer multiple choice questions about grammar. For this one, you'll need to brush up on your grammar skills and practice writing essays. I'll give you some good resources that will help you get ready for this section of the test.
