A paradox often conveys a great truth. "Why antiques?" I'm often asked. These objects of beauty over a 100 years of age remind us of the fragility of life. Within a second, one can easily shatter months of work performed by a great artist that has survived generations. The artist through devine inspiration and hard labor co-creates a brilliant gem that moves many for years. Through her art, the artist gains immortality. Through the collection of that art, the collector tries to gain immortality, knowing that he can pass on that droplet of light to future generations, much like a parent does a child. Through the branches of our fingers runs the wind of life. The paradox of life's fragility and the quest for immortality is mirrored in one's hunt for beautiful treasured pieces. Life is delicate- collect with passion!

- The 19th Century saw an unpresidented explosion in the expression of human emotions through art. The Art Nouveau movement is particularly appealing with its eamphasis on the beauty of a woman's face and form captured by the Meissen factory and in Royal Vienna portraits. Austrian art further excells in this form. KPM Plaques, Meissen and Royal Vienna have an instant alluring quality, whereas the Japanese art of Satsuma is more of a developed taste. By many experts' estimation, no other form of art, once truly appreciated, surpasses that created by the Japanese during the Meiji era- such as seen in Satsuma decoration.
