Some of the variety of names include: voucher codes, promotional codes, promotion codes, discount codes, savings code, promo codes, secret codes and so much more. They are all variations of one thing: saving you money through coupons. The majority of retailers on the internet offer coupon codes for use at one time or another. The main reason is that they drive traffic and spur the consumer to purchase since every buyer loves a bargain.

Let's take an example of someone who wants to purchase Dell Inspiron computer for $1200. As I look through the internet for dell coupons I find a discount of $300 with a coupon code supplied by them. This brings the price of a computer to $900. Imagine, if I had not looked through the internet for a coupon, I'd have been $300 short. There are many people who make the mistake of not searching through the internet for coupons before they shop. It almost seems like the obvious thing to do but people still forget. Another good example would be Orbitz. People will immediately go to orbitz, find a good deal and make a purchase. If they would go to look for orbitz coupons, they would see they would be able to save substantially on their travel. Sometimes there may not be coupon codes but the retailers' special deals may be posted on coupon code sites. Some of these can be free trials or other deals. For example, I was unable to find a netflix promotional code but I did find a free 2 week trial through a link.

This is a difficult question since many retailers publish coupon codes throughout the month. If I were to have to choose a time period where the most new coupons are published, it would be the beginning of the month. This is when retailers offer renewed promotions and expire their old coupons.

Pay attention to disclaimers coupon codes may have. It is frustrating to have made a purchase, go all the way to the shopping cart, try to redeem the coupon and realize you cannot claim it. Among some popular disclaimers you may see are:

1. Number of redemptions has maxed out - Make sure you claim your coupon as soon as you see it! I had a friend of mine deliberating whether to get a Dell laptop and when he finally decided the next day, he could not claim it because it had reached the maximum number of redemptions allowed.
2. Coupon maximum amount - Coupon can only be claimed if you exceed a certain amount.
3. Coupon not combinable - If there are similar coupon codes, they may not be stacked.
4. One item per customer - The deal must be so good that it allows only one deal for the customer. You can always have your mom buy it for you if you need more :).

It is important to opt in to retailer sites newsletters to get the latest coupons sent to you. Sometimes some coupon codes are strictly personalized so no one else can use it with the exception of the recipient. I know how much you hate junk email, but if it gives you some extra money in your pocketbook, it is worth a try.
