Why DIY Projectors are better than Commercial Projectors

5 Reasons why Diy projectors are better than Commercial projectors
  1. First off, DIY Projectors are much cheaper. There are many money saving reasons to build it yourself, a 720P commercial projector costs between $700 and $1200 dollars! A 720P DIY projector costs between $300 and $500 dollars. (I built mine for $250)
Also, bulbs for a Commercial Projectors last 2,000 hours and cost about $300-$400 to replace. Whereas, a DIY Projector's bulb lasts 200,000 hours and costs $30-$50.
  2. Also, they can be repaired very easily. Since you built it, you know how to fix any problems and know how to replace any parts. And also if you ever want to add any parts or customize anything about your projector, you can do it! Commercial projectors are a completely different story though. Since the projectors are so small if something breaks, you can't repair it! You have to send the whole projector to the manufacturer (and pay for shipping)!
  3. Another reason is the parts on a DIY Projector can last much longer.
And that is because of the next reason.
  4. You Choose the parts!
You can choose if want to go cheap on a part, or get the very best part money can buy if you want.
  5. And the final and most fun reason, You can say you built it!
People will be in awe when you tell them that you built the projector. You will be perceived as a genius, even if you're not (but they don't have to now that)!

Projected size from my home made projector - using plans available for free from Lumenlab.com. Projector uses overhead PJ optics with a 15" LCD monitor and a new 400 watt metal halide 'EYE' bulb. This bulb is brighter, leans toward the yellow spectrum, and has a reflector in place.
