According to the dust jacket of S is for Save The Planet, Americans create 250 million tons of garbage each year. The cover also says that it takes 100s of years for a polystyrene cup to decompose. Interesting facts, demonstrating exactly how huge our impact on the Earth is and such news can be overwhelming. However, this book talks about environmental issues AND gives simple ideas for us to act upon. It deals with many environmental topics from vermicomposting and xeriscaping to the R's of recycling, teaching readers how to make sure the earth survives for future generations.

Linda Holt Ayriss is the illustrator of S is for Save the Planet.
Ms. Linda Holt Ayriss lives on Bainbridge Island in Washington. She is an artist who graduated from the Art Center College of Design in California and who has a BFA from Pacific Lutheran University. She has received a silver medal from the Best in the West Society of Illustrators, and has also received recognition from the Communication Arts Annual.

- Our grandchildren are a bit young for this particular book, but both are certainly more environmentally aware than we were. Their school and their parents are doing a great job of teaching them to appreciate the earth. or as our little granddaughter calls it "My beautiful earth"
