How Can Families Save Gas?
Simple Tips to Save Gas for Familes (Less obvious ways to save gas)Fill your tank every time you get gasoline. Do not get a little bit of gas, thinking the price may drop. It may just go up. And any money you save next time will be wasted by stopping more frequently to get gas. Most people do not live on the exact same route as the nearest gas station. More out of the way driving equals more gas used.
Do normal errands only once a week, or even less, and use your computer. Choose a day that you can do all things such as banking, post office grocery shopping, etc. Do not come home until you complete them all. A warmed-up car uses less gas. And most people live some distance from normal places to do errands. Making less round trips will use less gas.
As far as banking goes, get direct deposit and do your banking and bill paying online. This is free and uses no gas!
You can also order stamps online. Most neighborhoods have a post office drop off box within walking distance. You may never need to go to the post office again!
Shop at a store that carries all you need. Quite a few retailers now combine grocery and department stores into one building. Driving to one store instead of two will save gas. If one of these mega-stores is not near you, many outdoor malls have a good combination of stores now. This means driving to one place and doing a little walking. Save gas and exercise at the same time.
You should also put a piece of paper on the front of your refrigerator. This is for a list of all items you need to purchase. As soon as you know you need something, such as toothpaste, you write it down. Go to the stores only one day a week and take this list. That way you will not be making special trips for one item.
Let the kids walk! Do you drive a couple of blocks to take the kids to school? Why? Let them walk. If safety is a concern, maybe you or a neighbor can walk with them. Bicycles are another option.

Effective Carpooling to Save Gas!
Carpool the right way or you'll be sorry!
Carpooling is a great way to save money. However, it can lead to more problems and frustration if not done properly.Locate people who live nearby and work at the same location. Carpooling with people who live on the other side of town is not worth it. It takes too much time to travel to each location. Do not ever carpool with people who work at different job sites. You will not feel like ride sharing to other people's work locations after a long, hard day.
Your carpool group should be as small as possible. Using a van is good, but the time going to different places to pick up and drop off can add up quickly. You want to be comfortable carpooling, not irritated. The total people in the group should be roughly the same as the number of days you work. That way, each person only drives once a week and there is no argument who drives next. A weekly routine is easy for all to accept and get used to.
Do not ask or volunteer to share gas money. Money may cause problems among your carpooling friends. If each of the members drives an equal share, the gas cost is already shared evenly. Tollbooths and toll lanes can be paid by the person who is scheduled to drive. Again, if all share driving equally, all money spent will be even.
Avoid taking on people who do not drive if you can. How is this person's cost going to be evenly divided?
You should ONLY carpool with people you know very well on a personal basis. Everyone needs to know what kind of behaviour to expect. You want no surprise smokers, swearers, or other unknown habits. You are going to be spending a lot of tense time with these people!
Make a vow to be on time and reliable. Do not try and get out of your duties and responsibilities. If you do not want to commit, then don't. This is why it is imperative for you to know who will be carpooling with.
You need a back up plan. You need a way home for emergencies if you have a spouse and children. This may prove to be tough. Have people you know who can pick up your kids and take care of them after school. Make them an emergency contact for school purposes. If you are married, the two of you should not carpool. This will ensure that one of you can make it home or to other places quick. Do not be a whiner and go home for every little problem. Remember you are committed to your ride-sharing buddies. It is best to have a list of co-workers who can drive people home.
If you are not committed, and do not find other committed people to carpool with, then don't do it. It can cause more problems than what it's worth. However, if you can find close, personal friends to carpool with, go for it. You really can save quite a lot of gas by driving to work only one day a week!

- Carpool is one way people are using to save gas. Using public transportation is another one if it's efficient enough. Also, getting in and out before rush hour traffic really helps too. Any case where you don't have to use your car will save you more money like biking or walking to the local supermarket etc.

- You can car-pool with just two people, you and your friend. If you live fairly close to each other and have a long way to work you'll save almost half the gas cost and it's a lot easier to manage with just the two of you.

- Hi, just wanted to say you have a lot of good info. Now that gas prices are much lower, this info will come in handy when the price of a barrel of oil goes up.
