Why You Should Care About The Crows
I one time became outraged by the way my city was handling the proliferation of Crows in and around the area!
Crows are wonderful, and although I never had one as a pet, my husband Tom did, when he was younger. He loved that Crow dearly and still tells stories of the bonding he experienced with that bird to this very day.
So I wrote an article to the editor, which is included here!!
Crow Is Sacred
Where ever the crow appears, there is magic, according to
shamanistic tradition. They are symbols of creation and
spiritual strength. They remind us to look for opportunities
to create and manifest the magic of life, which is in nature
and in our deepest souls.
Respect For Crows Is Respect For All Creatures
Lancaster Pennsylvania authorities believe one way to rid the region of the area's crow population is to poison and shoot them. This is a blatant disregard for the health of the people.
Is this business as usual for this conservative community?
In response to this lack of respect for all forms of life on Planet Earth, Kate Loving Shenk, a Lancaster Native, has this to say:
Letter to Editor
Lancaster Intelligencer Journal
9/14/06
Dear Editor,
The article in the 9/13/06 Intelligencer Journal concerning the enforced mass exodus of the Park City and Lancaster area crow is a typical example of a society that is removed from nature, that has poured concrete over the planet and expects all to flow in an orderly manner. The most
disturbing solution to the extrication of the beautiful black crow was to shoot and poison them so as to instill fear of humans into these noble birds.
And by poisoning them, we end up poisoning all living things including ourselves, no matter what the "experts" say.
The real solution did lie at the end of the article. Why notplace Great Horned Owl decoys at strategic places, the greatest enemy of the crow? The crows will decide to go elsewhere. The crow is the smartest of all the birds, and is obviously outwitting those humans who want to obliterate them.
The crow is a powerful symbol in mythology. In China, a three-legged sun crow was worshiped. It was a symbol of solitude. To the Athapaskan Indians of Alaska, a crow (in the form of a raven) was the creator of the world. To the Celts, the crow was also associated with creation.
In Biblical lore, the prophet Elijah was fed by crows while hiding in the wilderness.
Where ever the crow appears, there is magic, according to shamanistic tradition. They are symbols of creation and
spiritual strength. They remind us to look for opportunities to create and manifest the magic of life, which is in nature and in our deepest souls. These messages are unavailable to those who continue to choose commerce over the joy of living.

- Oh wow, that video is so amazing. I sure enjoyed my visit here and loved your letter. We used to have a friend who walked every morning and the crows would wait on him at a bridge and then go with him the rest of the way. Our friend always told us that he could communicate with these particular crows. We didn't know what to think but one day saw them together and decided that he was truly communicating with them. Amazing. I love this lens and can't believe that I haven't seen it until now. Blessed!

- I saw this crow flapping around by moms house.. and for some reason i felt i needed to help it. it was the most unique crow, it had blue eyes.. like crystal blue eyes.. i cried for this bird.. i don't know why.. i brought it bread to feed it but it wouldn't eat it.. I know your not suppose to touch them bare handed.. So i found some huge ivy leaves and picked it up from the street... so I tried everything to get it to fly, it wouldn't . I think it broke its legs, cuz the wings were flapping.. I had to leave, LITERALLY 40 birds were swooping by me and kawing SOO LOUD.. so i fled.. I just want to know why i was so attracted to help it, what did it mean... If its unable to fly away, i hope it passes on peacefully.
