Doing It Right!

You might have had friends inviting you to their parties and now they are hinting that it's time you host one at your house. It is quite easy if you do certain things right.

It is a misconception if you think that a party will be a great strain on your monthly budget. You can easily make smart moves and host a party that will make others green with envy.

You know where we miss often? The planning part. And that doesn't mean just planning the event, ordering for supplies, creating a timeline, etc. There is one big element that often goes unnoticed in the planning phase. That is, Researching.

Well, that's not the whole theme here, but is worth mentioning.

Research? Well, I Do That.

But, how do you do it? That matters.

It's obvious that everyone does his/her own part of research in particular things while planning a party. But chances are most of them are spontaneous ones. I mean, planning just for the party ahead. A good research, in order to save you money, needs to be consistent, relative and adding up.

To be specific, you should keep track of your past research in order to aid your present one, and the present one should add up to your 'information base' (God, what's up with my vocab?).

A good consistent research enables you to know:

  • For a given theme, which stores have the perfect supplies?

  • From a select list of stores, which provide the best quality? And which are most affordable?

  • What kind of supplies work best with most themed parties?

  • What is the best lead time possible for the delivery of supplies?

That goes on. But you know what? You have two most powerful tools for a good research. One is the Internet, the other is your own experience.

It just takes a reasonable bit of groundwork, and the rest is fun.

What do you think?

And tell me from your personal experience,

How far is researching important in party planning?

Few Things to Know

for buying supplies

You need to shop around to know from where you are going to get your party supplies. Though you pretty much get an idea from your research on the web, personal experience always does a great jobs in getting to know the best alternatives.

  • There are discount party supplies that will help you save a lot of money and these can bought in bulk, so you don't have to shop each time you want to host a party.

  • There are theme based party supplies so you can have a great time choosing your own theme.

  • Chart a plan on what all items you will need for the party.

  • Jot them down so shopping will be much easier.

The Theme

and the stores again..

So what is the theme for your party? And for whom are you holding it? Is it a fancy dress party or is it a Westerner? Are you planning a surprise party for your friends? You can actually plan on any theme now, that is the beauty of it.

There might have been times when you had to compromise on costumes and other supplies because you didn't have the right supplies. But now you don't have to worry anymore, because you can shop for them online. All these party supplies stores vie with each other to give you the best service. And your order will be delivered to your doorstep right away.

Shopping for party items is a delightful event now. If you are a first time shopper then you will have to dedicate some time to get the best deal for shopping for discount party supplies. But the next time, you don't have to do that, because you already know where to shop and how to order them.

And The Touch

What is that you place on the table once the food is set? Yes, a gourmet gift basket. Or any platter of your choice. You wont believe in the hundreds of varieties of gourmet gift baskets that are available these days.

It will make your party planning much easier. You can plan a memorable and beautiful looking party table within no time and win the appreciation your guests. The appetizing assortment of confectioneries, candies, chocolates, cookies, sweets and cheese will have a very desirable impact on them.

You can actually get one personalized for your party and make it really special.

Oooooooooh.. Couldn't get enough of 'em..!!

Party Planning Checklist

Well, this is one kind and is based on the idea of this lens. There are so many available on the internet. But choose the one that you think cover most of the factors and that you understand best.
  • The party theme and the location
Including: Planning to set-up a stage? How much space do I need?
  • The guests?
    (Friends, Family, Colleagues, etc.)
  • The possible number of attendees?
Typically, over four fifth of the invitees actually attend the party
  • The party supplies
What are the supplies needed? Which of them are re-usable? Do I have any used stock? What are the easy-to-clean supplies available?
  • What's the budget for the party?
The budget and the above set of things are basically a trade-off. But ideally, the above should influence the budget and not the other way around.
  • What are the good stores selling supplies?
Sources: Online/next-door, the ones I/my friends know, 'finds' through directories, etc.
  • Which stores provide high quality supplies?
Sources: Past experience and online/offline reviews.
  • Which stores provide discount party supplies?
Sources: Past experience, store price lists and online/offline reviews.
  • Lead time to get the party supplies delivered
Sources: Past experience, store support and online/offline reviews.
  • Invitations, stores selling them, mode of sending, etc.
Sources: Online/next-door, the ones I/my friends know, 'finds' through directories, etc.
  • What's the menu?
What time would the party be held? How long? What recipes suit my guests? Lead time to prepare?
  • Gifts for the guests
Keep in mind: Theme of the party, the guests and the budget.
