Growing your own food is not only financially sounds, it's also better for the environment and a very rewarding hobby.

1. Check through all your household bills, there is always something to be saved, mobile phone insurance, TV movie packages you barely watch, super fast internet you just don't need, there are usually good savings to be had.
2. Getting a package deal on services. Is it cheaper to get Gas and Electricity from the same supplier? It's often cheaper to get your internet connection in a package with your cable or satellite TV.
3. Make sure you pay your bills on time and where possible by direct debit, many companies offer discount when you pay by direct debit, but add penalty charges when you miss payment due dates.
4. Shop around for your insurances, it's important and even a legal requirement to have insurance, but shopping around can save you literally hundreds of pounds a year. Try using the range of price comparison websites that are out there.
5. Save energy. It's important to save power, its green, it's responsible and it can save you big bucks. Switch off lights when the rooms are empty, ensure heating and hot water is on a timer and only come on when it's needed. Make sure you always buy A rated appliances, letter rated products are less energy efficient and cost more to run each and every month. Make sure your loft is well insulated so the heat in your home stays there rather than pouring out the roof!
6. Drive carefully. Cars cost a lot of money to run, if you drive sensibly you can save a lot of money on fuel, tyres and general wear and tear.
