The reason for my lens

Welcome to my lens on saving money recipes. In this lens I want to focus on recipes that are quick and easy to cook and are cheap meals for the family. As a father of 5 children I haven't been able to afford eating out in cafe's and restaurants on a regular basis. Instead my wife and I have cooked the meals regularly and as a treat have bought take aways at most 2 or 3 times a month. This simple act of cooking our own meals has saved us thousands of dollars each year and I want to encourage others who may eat out regularly to start this practice.

The other advantages of cooking your own meals are that they are more nutritious with little or no preservatives, salt, msg and other unwanted chemicals. They taste better and you'll be far healthier from eating them.

When you start out cooking your own families meals it can be tempting to think what a waste of time but really you're trading your time for money saved. So from your very first home cooked meal you'll be saving money.

The recipes I have listed below are easy ones to get started with and get you used to the idea of home cooking. Each module will have a separate recipe and I'll list the dinner recipes first, later I'll add easy baking recipes so you can save further by not buying cakes and biscuits. At the end I'll give some more tips I've learned about saving money with food. I hope this will be helpful to people who are trying to make ends meet with providing food for their families.

Tips on Saving Money with food and a Recipe book

Get to know your supermarket and when they are likely to mark the meat down in price and buy on those days.

Get the specials brochure and check whether the items you need are on special.

Plan what you are going to cook each week so you can just shop for what you need, don't go along to the supermarket without a list and placing anything you like in the trolley.

You could check the specials and use that as a springboard for meal ideas.

If you're still out of ideas for meals I have found a site with a great cookbook and other resources geared towards saving you money. Go to this site Great money saving ideas
